After GWB's disastrous presidency I think anyone with the last name of Bush will have a very hard time winning a national election in the US for awhile.

I actually agree with you. Bush was a disaster, and the baggage that goes along with that name is going to be hard to get rid of in the short term. After Bush, we proved (twice) that yes, we can in fact do even worse, so the gop's best strategy is to link hillary to obummer, but ultimately that's tougher than linking one Bush brother with the baggage of another.

If hillary gets in, it would be another clinton, so we would have had Bush/Clinton/Clinton/Bush/Bush/obummer/Clinton. So basically 6 out of the last 7 terms would have a president named Bush or Clinton. That says a lot about our crappy two party system.

And there was a Clinton secretary of state for half of Obama's term. Additionally, Bush Sr was VP in the 80s. Basically a Clinton/Bush has been in the White House since 1980 EXCEPT for the past 4 years.

I loved HW Bush, but W's complete failure combined with a lunatic far right congress are going to scare moderates off from voting for Jeb even if he is more his father than his inept brother.

IF it comes down to Bush vs whoever is on the left, repubs will vote willingly for Bush no matter what you're saying now.

No. The office of the presidency should not become a political dynasty. Two Bushes (or Adams, Roosevelts, etc..) were more than enough.

If there was a third Adams and he/she governed by the ideals of the first, I'd vote for that person in a split second.

More Bush and Clinton. That's terrible.

I am reminded of George Carlin and his talks about the owners of this country and the illusion of choice.

Not so sure about that. IIRC, it was estimated that some 4 million repubs stayed home in 2012 cuz they weren't happy with Romney.

LOL. Yeah, in all the country there's no one that can possibly be president other than a Bush or a Clinton.

The saddest thing is; there's still people that think it matters a whole hill of beans which of those would win, AS IF the same political-puppetmaster forces wouldn't be behind both of them, playing most people as complete idiots.

And the puppet master is the press.

Think about it...the only reason Romney was the nominee was the media thrashed every single other republican candidate until only Romney was left. Same thing happened with the Mummy in 08. Does anyone honestly believe that either McCain or Romney were the best guys running? Hell no. But the press made sure they were the ones who got the nod, knowing they would get destroyed by the democrat nominee.

People can keep complaining and saying they don't want another person from the same circle but the press is going to destroy any outsider that tries to get it. Unless the media stops trying to change the world and goes back to honest reporting, the sheeple will continue to do as they are told.

Jeb Bush hasn't run a race since 2002. I think he will quickly find out that the Republican Party and their primary electorate has changed a lot in the last 12 years. He also seems to be fine with poking the conservatives with his stance on common core and illegal immigration. Jeb Bush also has some baggage from his lobbying days and time at Lehman Brothers before they went bankrupt. I could see Chris Christie and Scott Walker joining the race and splitting the establishment vote allowing someone like Paul or Cruz to sneak through. That would be glorious.

With four Supreme Court justices in their late 70s and 80s, there is a great chance the next President will nominate 1-3 justices. These justices will generally serve at least 20 years. There is a big difference between who Republicans will nominate vs. Democrats. After Ralph Nader used the same argument with Bush/Gore in 2000, i don't buy the argument that there is no difference between the two parties.

I don't see him getting very far. He has said things like immigrants are people, which is very anti-GOP.

IMO, the majority of Dems feel Hillary is owed her chance to run in spades. If Jeb Bush runs on his past record of being a moderate, he certainly won't get the same welcome from his party as Hillary gets from hers.

Jeb Bush is going to have to run the Tea Party gauntlet the same as Romney did, and like Romney, Jeb is going to have to appease the wing nut base to win the primary by preaching the wing nut line of far right loony-toons thus branding himself that way, then do an awkward flip-flop (thus enraging the loonies) to convince the moderates he didn't really mean what he said earlier and revert to being a moderate to win in the general.

Good luck with that.

Good job!

3 posts before you drug W into the thread. Does this mean Hillary will have a hard time convincing people she won't be giving head to interns in the Oval Office bathroom?

you both make good points--both individuals have tons of baggage related directly to their family.

I like Hillary and think she would be excellent, but I really don't want to see another Clinton. I don't like they idea of a "Dynasty."

From the few things I know, I think Jeb would be solid, and he's already the only relevant candidate that the GOP could offer right now. I also think he would be great--he should have been Bush 2--not that assclown that the SCOTUS saddled on the American public in 2001.

Bush one was pretty solid, and from all accounts Jeb would be more like HW than like Dubya.

But, again--that's another Bush, and Dynasties are bad. I'm not the only voter inclined to vote against either candidate on that premise alone.
