I kind of had that feeling after Zo agree to go to the Nets...good for them I guess. They get the honor of being beat in the finals again, and the joy of knowing that they are still worse than the 4th best team in the west.

If Mourning is healthy and at 80% of his prior self, the Nets are better than SA (as they are now). Mourning, Jefferson, and Martin form a very solid line, and they have solid depth there as well. What they really need is more outside shooting, Kittles, Kidd, and Harris aren't a scary combo from the perimeter. SA lost Duncan and will likely lose Jackson, so until they sign someone they have taken a solid step backward.

Now the Lakers will surely win the Championship this coming season... I was thinking if Kidd goes to the Spurs they MIGHT actually stand a chance against the Lakers...

Will the Spurs get desperate and use their money to sign any good free agent left or save up for next year?

Kidd wouldn't have made SA better than LA. SA has a good PG in Parker already. SA could have used Mourning more, as Mourning is likely better than Robinson at this stage even with his health problems.

What about the Mavs? They already have three all-stars in Nash, Nowitzki, and Finley. Van Exel is candidate for 6th man of the year. Mourning would have given them the legitimate inside presence they need since they almost got to the finals without Nowitzki in the SA series and would have beaten the Nets had Dirk come back for that series.

edit: Robinson not Duncan hehe

No it isn't. The basketball players who want to really win are getting smart and taking pay cuts.

Who the hell is bank rolling for the lakers? Bill gates?

Im glad they kept Kidd. 100 million dollars in 6 years, good lord. I was about to say he is worth every penny...but then again it's just basketball.

guys, this isn't baseball, where the Yankees payroll is 3X what most teams are at..

payton and Malone are going to be playing for bargain basement $$, in terms of NBA salaries anyway. Zo's contract isn't huge either - remember, this guy is no sure thing to make it through this next season, let alone the 4 in his contract....

Zo's move was smart, with Kidd on board, they are pretty much assured of winning the East again, though I think Indiana will give them a run this year.

Out West it is going to be brutal - San Antonio still has a lot of money they can spend, and although Jermaine O'Neal isn't available, they will grab people who can help them, and with Duncan, Manu, Jackson and Parker, they still have a good base...Sacramento will likely make a deal or two with Hedo on the go, and they are pissed about missing out on what they felt should have been their championships, two years in a row now...Bibby needs to step up though. You all know about the Lakers though, they have to be the favorites assuming Kobe's issues aren't a long-term problem for him.

As mentioned by myself and NeoV....nobody is bank rolling for the Lakers, they got Malone for a veteran minium of like 1.5mil (only half counts against their cap) and Payton for the mid=level exception of 4.5mil (the each made over 12mil last year).

I just looks like a couple of these players are realizing that if they take all the cap room (cough..Kobe...cough...Shaq...) their supporting team will suck b/c there is no way to get players under the cap for their team.

Yeah, that should shut up the laker haters in the crowd... wow... lakers are gonna rock this next season... however, if they win the championship, I'd expect malone to retire, I think they'll keep payton a few seasons... but still... you know why malone is there...

I agree teh spurs might have had a chance next season had they gotten kidd... I think it is right for them to say you could put Jack Nickelson (sp.) out on the court with those 4 guys and you still wouldn't have an even matchup throughout the league.

The Spurs can go after Elton Brand and other free agents since they'll have the money. I don't expect them to beat the Lakers though next year.

San Antonio didn't lose Duncan. He will sign a contract extension actually. Now if you meant Robinson than yeah, they need some help at center to replace him and allow Duncan to remain at power forward.
