Its not the easiest way to go, but I like the dbrand vinyl skin on the back with the bumper case. It protects the back and the edges, looks good, and doesn't add as much bulk as a case would.

The bumper case is so expensive! $25 shipped to me for what looks like a piece of faux metal (aka plastic) with a rubber insert. Also, from a YouTube video I watched, it looks like the case falls apart.

Oh, and I'm not going to get a skin for it. I like them, but I want to use the phone with the back showing first and foremost before I do anything more to it.

I have one of these full body protectors on my S4. For $2 you can't go wrong.
http://www.xtremeguard.com/LG-Google-Nexus-4-Screen-Protectors-p/lg-nexus-4-screen-protector.htm

Use the coupon code XtremeSALE for 80% off during checkout.

Watch the video on how to apply it, it is not one of the regular sticky screen protectors. It is a wet application one.

I know how to apply the wet screen protectors. My beef with them is that they've usually got a very tacky feel to them, and they nearly always have an orange peel effect.

Do these have the same "orange peel" effect like Zagg Invisible Shields? I hated those.

I'll wait for this answer, too. My phone will be here next week, and I want to make sure I have it protected the instant I unbox it.

You can install photo sphere on anything if you want, I use it on my TW S3.

Thanks for mentioning this. I've been stuck on 4.1.2 and I've been wanting Photosphere and LockScreen Widgets for awhile.

Your post prompted me to discover the Photosphere Camera+Gallery APK and now I'm nerding out with it.

So far I'm pretty impressed with this phone. Quite a bit snappier than the S3 and I have to admit a tad more responsive than my Note 2, though IMO it's splitting hairs. I forgot what it's like to easily use a phone in one hand - it's nicely compact and much lighter than the Note 2.

I'm going to leave it unrooted for now as I don't want to risk loosing Google Wallet and Isis (like my AT&T rooted Note 2).

It won't replace my Note 2 for daily use as there is no substitute for screen size for me - and the Note 2 stays within the line of being pocketable. The extra real estate for working on email, viewing webpages, and consuming media outweighs the one-handed lightweight use - but I better appreciate why some folks prefer it.

This reinforces my hope that the Note 3 will be lighter (and not much physically larger), and for the One Maxx and other competitors to be careful not to cross the line for daily usability. Until you've held a 180g phone one handed for 30 minutes, you don't appreciate how it sneaks up on you. I feel like I can one hand the Nexus for hours without strain.

Two annoyances - without rooting, can you have both toggles and notifications appear in the pull down bar like Samsung phones? It's annoying to have to switch between them instead of both just appearing. Also why are there such limited toggles - I got used to using them to switch between sound/vibrate, etc.

Secondly how can you get battery percentage to appear in the header?

You can long press the power button to switch between sound/vibrate.

I'd advise you to change the icons and names of the new camera and gallery app as well as it doesnt replace the original ones.
Your stock camera is likely better at just about everything else so use that for most photos. Photosphere is cool though, I dont know why they haven't released it as a separate app on the play store yet.

I got my bumper case in a swappa deal so I didn't know how much they cost. Fwiw, to me it is excellent quality, but I wouldn't have paid 25 for it.

As far as the glass back is concerned, I just don't like the feel of it. I'm not a fan of glass surfaces in general, except when it is functional, like on a touch screen. With the vinyl skin, at least if it does break you can't see it. Replacement backs are somewhat pricey because the induction coil is built into the back.

But yeah, the bumper + skin costs close to $40, so I can't see most people doing that when they can get a ringke case or something like that for a few dolllars.

I got my N4 in on Friday, and also ordered the 2 most popular cases on amazon (the dzitronic and the one with the clear plastic back for about $10 each). I wasnt really happy with either of them, since the phone actually felt pretty good without a case, and its big enough with either of those cases on that it would look borderline ridiculous in my pocket.

I saw this a long time ago, but my phones removable back has always stopped me from doing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ0d0JkSrvY
and this video of how effective the bumper is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2jDDkbA8ag

I applied the sugru last night, and about 20 hours later it seems mostly set. Im sure I could have done a better job, but im pretty happy with it - I might need to fix the bottom a little bit. The bumpers do a good enough job protecting the phone for me (im generally pretty easy on my phones).

EDIT: Thinking about putting extra sugru on the bottom and top since this is the only place it could be damaged from dropping it on a flat surface.
Does this make it look worse?

also if this does work out, next time I do it, I might get all fruity and do google colors like this (sorry all i have is MSpaint installed):

So far over the holiday weekend, I'm finding the on-screen battery life to be pretty decent, though taking it to work will be the real test as I get horrible connectivity there and I don't use my corporate wifi.

However, I'm finding the standby drain to be quite a bit higher than my Note 2. While not in use throughout the day, the phone slowly, but constantly drains down.

I'm at 35% now with 2hr 15min of on screen use with nothing but surfing and standyby- no games, streaming etc.

Google services (6%), Phone idle (6%), and Cell standby (4%) seem a bit higher than on my Note 2 in the evening, but not hugely so (maybe a few percent higher for each item). But with this type of usage, I'd be between 50-60% on my Note 2. Makes me a bit concerned about the workday. Nothing else stands out (screen is 51%, browser is 10%).

Any tips about the N4 non-use time?

Used market will definitely change. Maybe Google will sell the Nexus 4 out, but buyers won't pay the amount of money they were willing to pay before this. Especially in a place like Swappa where trades are mostly between phone enthusiasts who know the situation well. And I'm not just talking about a used Nexus 4, the prices for other used phones that are comparable will go down as well.

Like I expected the 8gb is already sold out. No one in their right mind is gonna sell a used Nexus 4 for much less than $200 if its not trashed.

Apparently they're not getting any back, which really does make it look like a clearance sale, to make room for the new Nexus 4 version II.

Probably once the current 16 GB is gone, it's gone.

And still, no one in their right mind would buy a used Nexus 4 for more than $200 either. I certainly wouldn't, and would advise anyone who asks not to.

This official price reduction sets the Nexus 4 (and any other comparable phones) at a certain level (i.e. around $200 for 8 GB). Regardless of the Nexus 4's availability from Google Play Store, the used market of comparable phones (including used Nexus 4) will be compared to that.

IMHO those bumpers are hideous.

Those pictures make me want to vomit.

They werent awful, but they fell off pretty easily today, so im either going bare, or using one of the cases i bought. A case or bare definitely looks better, but this felt much more sleeker in the hand, and took up less space in my pocket. Im guessing the sugru being expired probably had something to do with it.

Anyone know of a super slim bumper with the back and front exposed? I really only need minimal protection.

This is slimmer than the OEM/Google bumper: http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Borderl...poetic+nexus+4

Not sure the quality though. If you purchase it, please report back to me on how it is.

Oh also, apparently if you search around for Shenit or even on Ebay, most of the bumper cases there that look official are indeed made from the same company. So you can get an 'official' one for $10 shipped.

Yes but i think this chain of posts started with an idea that the Nexus 4 was gonna be selling for $150 now and keep dropping.

Its that price I thought was not realistic. Not for a while anyway.

Used prices would've dropped down to $150-175 range if Nexus 4 was available for $200/$250 worldwide. But it's more expensive elsewhere in the world so that will keep the prices up.

I used the Ringke Slim on my N4.

Sorry for double posting, but what's a good screen protector/case for cheap?

Also, is it needed to have a protector on the back of the device?

I don't use a screen protector, but I do have a Ringke SLIM case that I am mostly fond of. It doesn't interfere too much with the rounded glass edges as other cases do, it gives me much better grip than the glass back (and would hopefully keep it from shattering if I dropped it), and it's very thin, so it doesn't cause the phone to feel awkward in my hand. Oh, and it's only $10.
