BREAKING NEWS - Production Durons were overclockable on the ASUS!!

I recieved this confirmation from the same guy who told me about the BIOS multiplier adjustments - he recieved his batch of motherboards Saturday. These are production chips and motherboards he has used!

I have in fact been able to over clock the unit to a 950 running stable it
raised the chip temp about 10 degrees but still heat is not a problem
looking forward to see final bench marks for it

Multiplier lock does work but the Motherboard maker made a GFD on the board.

If you throw a duron on a cheezy board, can you overclock ? no because there is a multiplier lock but if you throw it on a board that has the built in feature, thats a different story.

How many million of people will buy a duron system only to leave it as is. Only the 29,000 anandtech user and other sites will know about the "special" i.e. Asus, Abit motherboards that supports overclocking.

So if you're a vendor trying to sell Duron chips at higher speed, won't you need a more costly motherboard in order to overclock ? Yes, then it makes it not worth it which makes multiplier lock works for AMD

I had a feeling that this would be the case. The way they explained the multiplier setup to work, it made sense that the mobo's that had the multiplier settings would work.

If durons could be modify like the old athlon where you soldier some resistors together, amd would bound to lose some money on blackmarket ripoffs again..

good that no one here would ever bought a black market "NEW" modified Athlons, you don't need a GFD anymore.

bad that it's multiplier locked...

oh well... but it's cheap enough to get a higher speed Duron..

AMD is reported to be 'Really' locking the Duron/T/Bird with the next stepping. The mobo dips/ BIOS tricks will not work on the new stepping. Hacking the chip per Toms latest blurb seems to be the only solution. I'm getting my Duron ASAP before the change.

I think it is possible that there was a mixup and that the original reference was to the new MSI K7TPro board, which another dealer states can OC a Duron 600 to 900. I'm not sure anyone has yet received any A7Vs from the first production run - probably only test/promotional A7Vs have been received. However, there has been statements from supposed Asus employees that the OC'ing capability was left intact on the board, but so far there is no product to verifty this. However, there evidently IS product today of the MSI board.

BTW, "Last Avenue" is not even listed on www.resellerratings.com .
