She probably died knowing she had done a great job raising a very fine human being.

The outcome of the election is about as close to certain as such things go, and I'm pretty sure that Madelyn Dunham would have held out longer if she had any real doubt or concern about it.

That aside, people like Madelyn Dunham and Ann Dunham deserve serious widespread acknowledgment and praise for their sacrifices and efforts in raising someone like Barack Obama. Like him or not, doubt his talents or not, that he's run such a successful campaign and captured the hope, respect and trust of so many people around world is in itself a significant achievement.

I'm certain that her death brings him pain - but I imagine he feels a sense of relief that her battle is over.

It's very difficult to see someone you care about in great pain in deteriorating health and declining quality of life as they battle a terminal illness.
