What it will be solved by are genetic screenings for horrible traits prior to birth.

No such thing as genetic screening for a complex behavioral trait like committing mass murder, because complex behaviors aren't determined by just one or a handful of genes.

Any type of complex human behavior is influenced by hundreds, if not thousands, of genes - basic genetic principles state that the more genes influence the behavior, the more influence environment has on the behavior.

That is, if you want to change behaviors like this one, you can't do it with genetics, you have to do it with environment.

I just found out my aunts friend's kid goes to that school. Parents are heading over there now.....hope they are ok.

They should legalize torture for cases like this. Put this scumbag in the city square and tie him up to the pole.

Give him minimal water and food to survive as people from the town and surrounding cities/states come visit to poke at him.

There's definitely some truth to that. If criminals were actually punished instead of getting free room and board it may be a greater deterrent to future crimes. If a guy knows he could get castrated if he's convicted of rape, chances are he may think twice about the crime.

I think you make a very valid point but I think it's too soon to dismiss the possibility that... well, let's put it this way:

I think if we start to take the reigns of our own genetics, we can eliminate traits like this. Even if that means a from the ground up reworking of our entire genome.

We're nowhere near being ready to do that of course, and you might lose a lot of desirable things in the process... so maybe it will never make sense.

There's definitely some truth to that. If criminals were actually punished instead of getting free room and board it may be a greater deterrent to future crimes. If a guy knows he could get castrated if he's convicted of rape, chances are he may think twice about the crime.

The only catch, apply torture to "100% guilty cases" without any reasonable doubt.

My boss's sister teaches at the school. She said she saw the principal getting shot. I can't confirm if thats true or not. Today was her day off but she decided to go in, and luckily she did because the sub did not know protocol on what to do.

So they do have some sort of protocol in place for situation like this.

Schools are the institutions most sensitive to shootings where civilians cannot carry. So put a cop there, like many high schools now have. Then you just have to hope he doesn't run when the time comes.

Basically, debate is pointless and the only real 'solution' is to weed the crazies out of society. Which is impossible.
