I'd get the regular S6 if you're going to go the Samsung route. I've used the Edge, and it's definitely eye-catching, but it's hard to justify the premium unless you can't help but smile every time you see it. I'd probably roll the money into either a higher-capacity model or accessories like cases and wireless charging pads.

If you're intrigued by the G4, I'd get a leather model if possible... though I suspect you were already leaning that way!

My employer is going to buy me whatever I decide on. Only catch is that I'm going to have to live with it for the next 2 years so I'm kinda sweating the decision.

I like the leather backs on the G4 but not super thrilled that I have to go with another back if I want wireless charging. And I could live with a S6 but I love that Night Clock feature on the Edge.

I just got a LG G Pad tablet last year and I am glad I did not make a switch to Android just yet because apps are awful...poor written apps...crashed. I am going to stay with Apple because it "just work". Im looking forward to see a new Apple TV next week hopefully.

LG GPad is ok, just needs a different launcher installed, or it's pretty laggy...

Tablet apps have always been a problem for Android.

This is where I'll end up for now. I expect to buy either an LG G4 or S6 Edge (if I can make up my damned mind) this week and will stick with the iPad for the time being. Given that I only use my iPad for browsing, email, FB, and Kindle I will at least look at the Android and Kindle tablets over the next few months. As far as the Apple TV...may just throw it in the closet and move my PS4 back into the living room. It has Netflix and Spotify. I've really enjoyed using Spotify this past week.

Depends how much having the only genuinely different and cool phone, with little added functionality, matters to you.

Everything else are rectangular slabs. So it's worth the 100 for a surprising number of people. Just know you're making a design decision - like getting a more expensive apple watch band. In contrast, the 100 for the edge gets you much more.

There's not a ton that takes advantage of the curved edge. So I'd say that you're not getting much more, and that the comparison to fancy Apple Watch bands is indeed warranted. It's at least more fair than you give it credit.

Not sure what point you're trying to make. I made the comparison because I thought it was warranted.

I do think 100 for the edge - with its aesthetic and minor functional gains - gets you relatively more than the 200 to get the
Apple Watch over the sport, which has no functional differences.

I dropped iOS for Android and iPad for Windows tablets (mainly Surface Pro) for ultimate flexibility.

I have the LG G4 now. I'm sort of underwhelmed by it but to be fair, I haven't had time to get it setup properly (apps, appearance, etc.) since Wednesday. This weekend I'll get everything squared away. I have to admit, even though I was thoroughly bored with iOS, I do miss it's clean simplicity. I've got 30 days to send this G4 back if it's not for me. Some of the features that drew me to the G4 have been removed by Verizon.

I keep wondering if I would have been happier with an S6 (Edge or otherwise). It has a great screen, camera, native wireless charging, and a home button. I think it might be the most Apple-ly Android phone.

Not what I was saying.

And not entirely what you were saying, since your language on the functionality of the edge has been toned down.

I'm saying the watch band comparison is more appropriate than you give it credit for. As in, the S6 is basically like buying a fancier Apple Watch band, because of the fact that the little bit of functionality you get isn't great.

Depends on the tablet. My Tab Pro 8.4 is great. No lags, great screen, no app issues.

Ecosystem arguments are interesting - it completely depends on your usage.

Do you purchase lots of digital 1) movies 2) tv shows 3) music? 4) apps?

Or do you mainly rent/stream movies/tv and use mostly free apps?

My use case is me with Android phone and tablet, my wife has an iPhone and iPad mini. We use Chromecast to stream from my phone/tablet, or Amazon off of our smart tv/Blu-ray. We do not purchase much digital content, except some kids shows from time to time. The way we use content, and the available sources of entertainment, "locking into an ecosystem" will not happen (almost forgot, for music it is almost all mp3 purchases, or we just stream it, and apps, well, we don't go nuts on those either).

However, if you buy large amounts of digital tv/movies or just have to have your purchased apps forever, then you may have an ecosystem issue.

I big on the Windows platforms but it does not hurt to try Android too! That way you can gain experience and decide if you like it! I would suggest going with the phone first since phone and tablet are same OS but may have different flavors of it since it is customized by each manufacturer too. With Android you have a lot more stuff to consider in your purchase of a device like a phone or tablet then Windows or iOS!

After a week with the LG G4, I think it's going back and I'm just going to go with an iPhone 6 or 6+. The G4 is my fourth Android phone and it's definitely the nicest of the bunch but I'm underwhelmed with it and I still find Android OS to be vaguely janky. I do love the widgets and some of the customization options but after using this phone for a week, I just don't want to mess with all that stuff. Will make up my mind for sure tomorrow.

Android isn't for everyone. I would never switch back on the iPhone, but I am the first admit that Apple has a polished experience that is limited but consistent.

Are you completely phoneless without that G4? We are so close to an expected Apple refresh now, only a couple of months away. If you are considering the phablet sized one I would wait if at all possible.

I just get tired of messing with phones. Want stuff to just work, get timely updates, have a ton of 3rd party support, and apps that work well.

Android is worlds better than a couple of years ago.

Well, it's more like three months plus. I'd say he's in the "if he needs a phone, he should just get it" territory. The alternative is going phoneless (or getting some super-cheap temporary phone) for a long time.

PS: 1,000th post!

Depends on the carrier and if he wants the phablet one. If I was considering a iPhone 6+ I would find a way to live on some cheap Windows Phone or a Moto G until the 6+s hit with its 2GB of ram and SoC that fits that screen and resolution. The s model will be a huge upgrade for the phablet size.

I can roll back to my iPhone 5. Will need to check with my Verizon rep about getting my upgrade eligibility status back if I decide to wait.
