I just got one in the mail yesterday and gave it a shot today. I think I actually like my Mach 3 better, but I will use up the first blade and see if I like it more after a bit. I can't even remember where I signed up for the free one, but I thought it was on these forums somewhere.

The razor is basically just a stick that holds a cartridge so it only makes sense that it wouldn't cost much. The cartridges are clearly the most expensive and difficult piece to manufacture. Given the number of parts needed to make a cartridge, the fault tolerances for the blades themselves (small defect would cause it to be worthless), and the casing that holds all of the blades.

I am not saying that they aren't raking us over the coals with the prices of the cartridges, all I am saying is that "give'em the razor, sell'em the blades" is not some whacked out business model trying to pull some kind of trickery on the public. They are giving us the cheapest part for the cheapest price, and charging us most for the expensive parts. If they were actually pulling some kind of trickery, the more clever members of our society (I'd assume this includes most people in the hot deals forum) would never buy blades, we would just buy new razors...

try it, you'll be smooth all day. and blades are about 50 cents each, and last at least two weeks. the only thing better than this is a straight razor.

i use a gillete sensor when travelling, and it's a POS. i can only get one shave out of it before the blade is too dull.

Some places (drugstores) I saw it cheaper to buy the whole razor set than the refills themselves... because it comes with one on the stick and 2 in a hidden bay in the back.

IMHO I havent really noticed a huge difference in closeness/comfort beyond 3 blades... after going through many a shick and gilette cartidge mess I ended up back getting the 6-8 packs. Fresh razors are the only thing that "cut it". Besides... I would tend to think it would be a little more sanitary using an entirely new razor rather than just a new cartridge.

My $100 norelco sits in my travel bag and only gets used when I am on the road somewhere.

as i posted earlier, yep i agree..mach 3 is better than 4 and up ..so far.maybe there is a law of diminishing returns...i think i like my 23 blade more than my 42 blade

I've been comparing the three and four blade models head to head (no pun intended!) since I received coupons for free samples of each of them. I find that I like the Mach 3 better - the 4 blader doesn't seem to get any better results and doesn't feel like it stays sharp as long. Also, the three blade cleans much easier, the 4 gets clogged up.

Mach 3 Turbo is good enough for me too. I have a hard enough time getting my sideburns straight as it is.

I'll stick with my double-edge safety. Refills are $.45 each and last at least a week.

Using M3 I shave once in 3 days. I hope with 5 blades I'll do it once in 5 days. So finally I hope to have razor to shave on Monday only. BTW 3 gear transmission is more than enough for a car, but Lexus offers 9 gears now.

The fifth blade is actually on the opposite side of the part that shaves your face. I got on one of the test panels for this thing a little while back. I laughed when they sent me the description. A fifth blade for what? My sideburns? I thought it sounded stupid but I was sorry when they stopped mailing them to me. I think it's great. I got a new razor and an 8 pack of blades in the mail as a thank you this week and I'll be glad when I can buy them in the store.

Um, the picture specifically shows 5 blades. Also as stated in the label on the picture that says "5 blade shaving surface".
