Breakthrough in Modding BG2

Well I started to play BG2 again and now it is incredibly easy to mod your baldur's gate 1 + 2 game into one giant game with a bunch of other mods AUTOMATICALLY!

This program over at spellholdstudios downloads,extracts, and installs all the mods you want/pick if you just have BG2 and not BG1 then you can mod BG2 by itself also..

you can download hundreds of hours of mods and tweaks, well made might I also add.

originally you have to download all the mods separately and unpack them one by one, making sure they unpacked all the way, some of the mod were executable also so they had to be ran making room for error great, then you had to make sure the mods were compatible with each other

so with this you can combined bg1 + bg2 and all its expansions into one gamed (using the Bg2 engine) with hundreds of hours of new gameplay over 50 new npcs and over hundreds of new items, not to mention some tweaks balance fixes and better AI and scripts

Well things aren't perfect, some of these downloads timed out even though I could clearly download them directly from the links, and attempts at re-installing is crashing...time to reinstall BG+BG2+TOB all over again...

My hopes are going down...this is starting to look more and more like the classic SHS shoddy programming...reinstalled the entire trilogy 3 times already...this is starting to border on "monumental waste of time" and I haven't even fired the game up yet. 5 Years of SHS modding and it doesn't look like they've made much progress. I've already played 99% of the mods here already though, so meh.

If what you say is true then I'm going to be upset, I just deleted my old functional install of BG2 + TOB thinking this was going to work. I still hope it does.

I just tried it an it is indeed buggy, things are timing out on downloads... heres the link to all the mods and the old way of installing bg2 mods

this is still the most stable way to use them, manually unzipping and extracting to directory then using the big world install.bat, that BWP 6.0 pdf is the list of the mods and if they are buggy or not

Lol I'm gonna stop after 1 more installation attempt....my 5th one. The "recommended" installation is totally broken and I'm testing out the others although essential files are missing from several of the downloads.

I've probably burned through 100GB of SSD writes in the last few hours lol.

Hmm, I'm not timing out on the downloads but there do seem to be quite a few files missing, and I painstakingly downloaded everything on the list I wanted to use.

I guess with an installation program this complex there is bound to be some bugs. If installation is borked you can read this thread...

By its brevity I assume it means not that many people are using this program yet, probably why these problems are sitting around.

Anyway, I'm finally in the "real" installation stage after burning through 200GB of my SSD writes, lol...in a few hours I'll know if this works.

Although be advised, at least half of the mods don't extract properly, the "skip check" trick only gets you clear from the show stopping bug, so don't expect a "true" mega mod.

MOD compatibility is still pretty bad. I get CTDs constantly...but when I try to reproduce the CTD-causing event, nothing happens. That said, 33GB of HD space! Talk about 0 compression.

This really sucks. I had a working, game in progress run of BG2 that I was actually doing pretty good in and I destroyed it. After 9 hours the install of this "mega mod" was stuck in a loop so I had to cancel it (it was midnight). Now at this point my BG2 directory was fubar so I re-installed. Now I don't know what I want to do with my clean install.

Yeah the megamod is pretty crazy, it still took hours to install this on my Intel X25-E. The main problem with the megamod is, its several dozen enthusiast mods from different people/teams that were just thrown together into one game. It's actually very impressive because even games with toolsets like NWN/NWN2 have not pulled this off. On the other hand, it's ridiculously buggy and prone to crashing.

If you do a "standard" install with everything correct, there are very few errors and ctds. the big world 6.0 pdf shows the most compatible w/ the "standard" install of mods
