doesn't bother me if the women shows a reasonable degree of modesty and common sense.

Is this behavior appropriate in a restaurant setting, or should the women have pumped her breast milk earlier and bottle feed the child in public? Thoughts?

Haahahhaha....

Jesus, how removed are you from procreation that you would even ask this question. Only in America.

Breastfeeding is how babies up to age 2 or so eat, nearly exlusively. Yes babies can survive off of other foods and substitutes, but even the Surgeon general upholds a min. 6 mo. preferably 1 year. Babies have to eat a lot. Infants have to eat every two hours. It is a law that babies can eat wherever adults are allowed to eat.

Why TF are you surprised and upset that a person is breastfeeding in a restaurant? You eat there, why can't a baby?

Actually, I wasn't offended by the breast feeding. The reason I posted this question was because I wasn't sure how to feel about it. I completely agree that children should receive their mother's milk for at least the first two years, but it is the method of delivery in public which I am discussing.

The only reason to ask this question is if you consider the breast to be a solely sexual object. It isn't. Once you accept this basic biological fact it's not that different than someone applying Bengay to a sore muscle on their chest. Yes, we don't usually see that part of the body, it's a little weird, but it's nothing to call the cops over.

Yes that is true and there are many Niks on the board here that only ever get to see female breasts in 2D. So when confronted with a live 3D breast they freak out about public nudity and such. They can't help but stare and mayeb upset that the babies head is blocking the view of the nipple.

Breast pumps and bottles were invented for a reason.

She said that this was done in the bathroom...

I say that's fine... at least she didn't pop it out in the middle of the resturante!

If you even make a comment on it in WI you can get a huge fine and possibly jail time.

If you don't like it, don't look. It doesn't hurt anyone and that's how babies eat. DO it anywhere you want as long as you try to at least be discreet and aren't taking your shirt off and leaving your other boob hanging out there too.

I do not have a problem with it at all, what I have a problem with is this, a woman who slings the boobies out to feed the kid is not breaking the law, but a woman who pops them out just to show people can get in trouble for public nudity. that is a double standard. I say all women should go around topless. that would solve the double standard

EDIT: the reason why I say double standard is this: They both have their boobies exposed for an unspecified amount of time (Enough time for the general public to see the boobies) before they either are attached to a babies mouth or put back in the garment they came out of. yet one is ok and the other will get you a fine at the minimum

Typical woman doesn't know what to think or why she thinks that

In all seriousness, I guess I don't mind as long as it isn't Roseanne pulling out a ten pound breast sagging to her knees. What does bother me is when you look for a second, and glance away because you realize what's going on. Then the couple has the nerve to look at you like you're a pervert or something, like it was wrong of you to have looked and be shocked.

Edit: @tjaisv
I can see the arguement where women are tryingto prove themselves in "motherhood". Like when a man bodybuilds or something all winter and walks around in a beater or without his shirt most of the summer, almost prideful. I'm sure you follow me.

Americans are such prudes. None of you go to Europe or else you might see women breastfeeding in all sorts of public places...or worse yet...allow their children to run naked through public fountains. Breasts are breasts, whether they be from men or women. Let a mom do what she needs to do when she needs to do it. Get over it and quit staring.

Sorry had to say this too.
I don't care about breast feeding in public unless the mother was pretty uglaaay. I don't want to see low dipping taties while i'm eating... or walking around... or shoppping. It would just be too disgusting.

I wouldnt care if i saw that, but it can be done somewhat descreatly too.
If i have a baby, i would breast feed but i would not do it in public like that just because i would not want people staring at me, its not a show.

There's a time and a place for everything, including breast feeding. It's not a question of whether or not it's wrong, disgusting, sensual, or anything else in my opinion; rather, it's more likely that it's simply poor etiquette along the same level of bringing a noisy child into a movie. In nicer restaurants I would expect the child be left at home either way.

I have no problem with it at all, completely natural.

up to age 2

This I have a problem with - if your child is old enough to ask your for lunch it is time to stop reaching for the blouse buttons.

Amen!
I was in Paris a couple of years ago and you can't watch tv or walk down the street without seeing boobies. There were boobies on commercials and on fliers in store windows. They were everywhere.

I've seen a woman breastfeeding in the middle of a mall when we were in Maui. She used a blanket to cover up though... but it was a weird sight to see in public.

i dont understand why people get so bent out of shape over this topic. the mother is feeding her child, people react like the mother just lifted up her dress and took a big steamer on the floor.

some people need to grow up and stop being overly sensitive over stupid sh*t.

The problem is completely in the eye of the beholder. Young people who are still strugling with their OWN sexuality seem to be the only people really bothered by this.

Hell, in many parts of the world a woman walking down the road can hike up her dress, squat and do her business on the side of the road and nobody pays any attention. And in many places clothing is optional for everyone, not just the young and beautiful.

The human body comes in all shapes and sizes, young, old, fat, thin, and everything in between. For those saying "It's OK if their hot, but disgusting if their not" need to get over themselves, theres a lot more to life than "Hit it?, or not?"
