Breast feeding in restaurants?

I had lunch today at my favorite New York Pizzaria today, and on the way to the bathroom I see a women take her breast out and start breast feeding her baby. Now, I am a woman, and a strong supporter of women's rights. I just don't know what to think about this. Is this behavior appropriate in a restaurant setting, or should the women have pumped her breast milk earlier and bottle feed the child in public? Thoughts?

I find it rude and offensive. Not that I'd do anything about it, but that's foul. That's something you need to do in private. Oh, and before you go off on me with your self-righteous human-rights speeches about the joys of parenting and innocence of childhood, I don't care. Do it at home. Breast pumps and bottles were invented for a reason.

:thumbsup: I got a ton of friends who have kids and they breast feed them all the time..... It is a little weird having conversations with them when they are doing it though.

Jesus, how removed are you from procreation that you would even ask this question. Only in America.

Breastfeeding is how babies up to age 2 or so eat, nearly exlusively. Yes babies can survive off of other foods and substitutes, but even the Surgeon general upholds a min. 6 mo. preferably 1 year. Babies have to eat a lot. Infants have to eat every two hours. It is a law that babies can eat wherever adults are allowed to eat.

Why TF are you surprised and upset that a person is breastfeeding in a restaurant? You eat there, why can't a baby?

Many women in America are so obsessed with the way they look that they refuse to breast feed on the basis that they don't want their breasts to sag more than they will "naturally" later in life. Saying that breast feeding is almost exclusive is far from the reality.
