Not a new thing. The manufacturers of the dresses will likely refund the price of them under the condition that they are destroyed. They don't want stores selling them on fire sale because it would devalue there dresses. If dress A is normally a 5k dollar dress and it's sold for 2k it is no longer a 5k dollar dress.

Does that apply if you donate the dress? Its still a 5K dress, you just donated it to charity.

Most likely.

I'm surprised the manufacturers didn't just take the dresses back though to sell elsewhere.

Probably isn't worth the time or effort. I would bet that 5k dress is a 5k dress because of the name and design, not the actual cost to make the dress. Unless i'm wrong, but I'd imagine that 5k dress probably doesn't cost 500 to make.

Saw some news stories about this, the bridal shop should have delabeled the dresses and donated them.

That's bullshit... (If it's true.)

Williams Sonoma breaks a ton of stuff when its time has come. Its worth it to protect erosion on some items.

Same thing with burning down fields to keep crop prices up. Nothing new here.

That is irrelevant in capitalism. Primary goal of capitalism is to maximize profits to shareholders and/or business owners.

Destroying surplus goods means supply/demand curves do not get skewed out of whack and profits stay within expectations of the business owners.

This works best if you burn down your neighbors' fields.

It is also good evidence of why straight-up market capitalism does not provide the best of all possible outcomes.

Your posts are irrelevant since the majority of these gown makers do donate wedding gowns already.

That still would have placed a lot of identical-quality dresses on the market in direct competition with their partners who DIDN'T go out of business (yet). What a great way to drag them all down with the one that already tanked!

You have a messed-up definition of the word "need."

You obviously skipped where I typed 'donated them'. Competition in the donated wedding gown market?

IMO, if they didn't sell and went out of business, then destroyed the dresses to "keep the value up" then they weren't worth 5k to begin with.

Are you retarded or something? My post was simply in response to someone who asked why the manufacture didn't try to get the dresses back. I was just saying that it probably wasnt worth the effort or time.

Eat a dick.

Just what do you think the place receiving them does with them? When you donate to Goodwill or most any charity, they SELL them. Even if they went through enormous effort to specifically give them away to people who are going to use them, that still means less people looking to buy dresses and a depressed/diluted market. Got it? Jesus. Stop being so thick.

Note: Said imaginary charity would have spent resources and gained nothing from this "charitable" contribution if they actually did that.
