I got the LD 01 and it's pretty bright on the high setting and it uses a single aaa battery.

I usually carry a streamlight stylus pro with me for EDC but it's not as bright as what you're looking for. As was stated, 4sevens and Fenix seem to make pretty good lights and you might also have a look at maratac's stuff on Countycomm.

People on youtube seem to like them pretty well and they seem to be well made. Looks like the "tactical" lights are supposed to be the brightest with the tactical AA being 105 lumens I think and the AAA being 95 lumens. Lots of choices out there so good luck!

What is it with the Internet and flashlights? I've seen whole sites dedicated to them.
Men obsessed with cylinders spewing forth powerful, unyielding streams of white wavy particles...

Freud, you listening?

One could say the same thing about:

  • Guns
  • Knives
  • Computers
  • Cameras

  • Power tools..
The list goes on and on. It's a tool. Some are fascinated with (pick from list above) and I'll leave it at that.

OP you are limiting yourself by narrowing choice down to a single AA cell. The chief advantage to a single AA cell is wide availability of the source. However as long as power is available for charging going to Li Ion cells opens up a plethora of options from reducing size to increasing output, etc.

Don't waste your money on fancy flash lights.
Get this one for $8-$10 and buy a pair of 14500 Li-Ion & a charger for about another $15.

I bought 1 then 2 more for gift. I got a Fenix which was better built but its beam was narrow. This one can be used either 1 AA or 14500 for much brighter, its beam can be adjusted too.

I'm sorry but if you don't know anything about the subject, please stop posting. A few members have made some great recommendations (CPF, Fenix, Jetbeam, etc). If you want junk, go the DX or Meritline route.

I started out looking for the same thing (1 AA), but I quickly moved to a single or double 14500 light.

You really need to use lithium (14500) if you want a good light. You would be amazed at the difference.

DealExtreme.com is a great place for cheap flashlights. Check the reviews (very good).
I have this light: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/uniquef...-1-14500-30987
It works good, but I have to tap it sometimes to make it work. I have taken it apart and resoldered everything, but it still has a loose connection somewhere.

I have 3 2x14500 flashlights and they are all pretty awesome. Some are bluer than others, which is great for output, but a little harsh on the eyes.

Here is DealExtreme's flashlight forums. http://club.dealextreme.com/forums/Forums.dx/Forum.-209

Here we go with the fucking elitism again.

I honestly don't understand what flashlight buffs see in the expensive lights. I've compared some of the DX flashlights to some Fenix's, and while the DX ones were obviously inferior but they were less then $20. So you can't complain.

There's several options in here, it would be foolish not to mention you can get a decent flashlight for dirt cheap.

OK, the Jetbeam is great. Comes in a sturdy plastic case with waterproof seal and has a nice nylon sheath, good quality cord, extra o-rings and button. The body is very sturdy and waterproof but only down to two meters. The o-rings are bright red so you can easily inspect for cracks. Multi-mode works great, 4 levels of brightness and a SOS and strobe mode. Switching between them is weird but I'll get used to it.
The lowest setting is brighter than my Photon lights and supposedly lasts 90 hours, which I doubt.

I had a Fenix LD20 a few years ago before losing it. You can get a single AA tube for the flashlight and if I'm recalling correctly it'll output the same output as running 2AA, just with less runtime. I can't remember if it would hit the 180 lumen turbo mode on 1AA or not. It's been a while.
