I got video in VLC, but it's very choppy and broken up

Plus, my 3000+ at 1.94GHz is at 100% CPU load

I wish this worked off of the video card ... mine could handle it

1. install the moonlight player (will be used for it's decoder).

2. get media player classic

3. if you have ffdshow, go to [video decoder]configuration and depending on which version you have:
a. on the left column, scroll all the way up and select Codecs. there should be a slider at the bottom to set the merit. set it to "preferred." in this case, mpc will use the moonlight h.264 decoder.
b. on the left column, scroll all the way up and select "info and debug." there should be a slider in the middle to set the merit. set it to "preferred". in this case, mpc will use the moonlight h.264 decoder.

4. open video in mpc.

5. report back.

(you might need to change the file extension to .avi instead of .h264, .mov, or .mp4. sometimes works, sometimes doesn't)

MPC resizes but the video only shows blackness, no video, audio plays though.

did you do step 1? i'm referring to this http://www.elecard.com/ftp/pub/mpeg/player/player3_0_1.zip

Yeah, did step 1, got that player, even tried the H.264 decoder off the same site.

open the video in MPC, as it playing, go to Play --> Filters. can you take a screen shot of what's listed or list them here?

Plays okay on my XP2800 with 1GB RAM and 6600GT.

Goosemaster, can you PM with instructions on how to turn .TS files into H.264 compatible files? I have a bunch of HD goodies i'd like to share.

Jsut put it in Nero recode, set it to use HDTV - AVC, set the size you want, and glick go.

It's so much easier than the route I took i nthe past

And how about the other HD h.264 clips in the folder? I also have a SDTV clip. It's in the vids/h.264 folder.

I encoded the Bikini clip with Moonlight AVC OneClick Compressor. On my 3.4c, I get only 8-9FPS. While with Goose's FF clip, it only played back in Nero Showtime. It played back smoothly, but I'm unsure where to find the option to display framerate. I would estimate at least 15 FPS. So it would appear that Nero's h.264 codec is less CPU intensive than Moonlight's h.264 codec. I wonder how QT7's codec compares. Based on the BBC clip, I would have to say QT7 and about equal to Moonlights codec in the CPU requirements.

Nero Recode (I have recode version 2) will not accept ts files. How do you normally add them to Nero Recode?
