bringing the fsb above the fsb:agp:pci ratio limit

I have an epox 8k5a2+ and an xp1600, the xp 1600 used to be in an abit at7 but I wanted onboard raid so I got the epox, i know the chip will yield 200+ fsb on air cooling and not go above 48c load, but my epox board only has a 5:2:1 fsb ratio. I just spent $400+ on a radeon 9700, and I want to oc the f*ck out of this chip, but when I go for 200 fsb my agp clock is 80 and my pci is 40. I dont know too much about ocing the agp and pci bus so im not sure what this will do to my vid card, onboard lan, and sound, as well as my mobo itself. Can someone let me know whether it would be stupid to push for 200fsb, or might epox release a bios with a 6:2:1 ratio (if thats even possible). Thank you anyone for any ideas/suggestions.

When you say the 1600+ yields a 200MHz+ fsb, surely you mean by lowering the multiplier. Because 200 x 10.5 is 2100MHz. Any Athlon XP can handle as high a fsb speed as a motherboard can dish out, providing the maximum core speed isn't exceeded. I have heard that the Radeon 9700 is picky about a high fsb. Just use your multiplier to keep things reasonable. 37.5MHz for the PCI bus and 75MHz for the AGP should be OK, however after that I would think the Radeon would give you a problem, just try it and find out I guess.

no my cpu is still locked it. It took 200mhz fsb just fine on my at7e. although i had problems with the onboard sound, probably due to the fact that the pci bus was running at 40mhz

im surprised your hd isnt experienceing any problems
what kind of hard drive do you have?

abit at7 (along with abit it7 for p4) were amazing boards for overclocking, perhaps the epox as well will get you there

why not stick with teh abit board if it runs at 200fsb rather than experiment with epox?
or you could try a nforce2 board, it locks agp/pci so no problems would be experienced

you had a 1600+ running at 2.1 GHz (10.5*200)?!?!?!?!?!

yep, it wasnt very stable though, im not sure it was the cpu though, I think it was my ram. it ran 190 just fine

if you don't mind me asking, what kind of cooling were you using? The Palomino core at 1733 MHz puts out a maximum of 72.0W of heat. Assuming the trend of scaling continues, your processor would be putting out about 80W under load!!!!
