I have always dreaded using hotel towels and washrags. The idea of it is just so disgusting. And, what if the person who used them before had aids?

So this time I bit the bullet and payed 100$ extra for a second checked bag. In that bag I packed my own towels and rags and the peace of mind it brings is amazing. I will definitely be doing this on every trip I go on in the future!

Part of the enjoyment for me is using the unfamiliar hotel amenities. I wouldn't want my towels there.

I've been in only one or two hotels where the towels were actually soft and reasonable to use.
Many of the rest are like used Brillo pads.

Seriously dude. The towels are laundered. Mostly the sheets are laundered

But the bed spread? Or the mattress cover? Think about all the nasty, naked, feces-covered asses that sit on those, and they hardly ever get washed.

Leave the towels home and bring a suitcase of disinfectant.

Also - if I need something like that on a trip, I just buy it local and leave it in the hotel room. Cheaper than paying for an extra bag
