Hey guys and gals. I plan on finally building a new machine after years and years of waiting due to life\marriage\kid. I want to make sure that what I build will have a chance of lasting for years like this build did as we all know the life of a married man is a broke one. Because of this I plan to go with Broadwell-E. I have been trying to keep up with the status on this chip but news has become really scarce. Typically when they release a new series they will also release a new chipset with it. Reading up online it sounds like they will be sticking with X99 but since that chipset is over a year old I have a strong gut feeling that at the very least they will put out a refreshed version of said chipset with more features. Does anyone have any updated information on the platform as a whole? Last I heard it was supposed to drop at the beginning of Q2 but that was back in January and all I was able to find was leaks of the prices of the cpu's coming.

When the time finally arrives im going to try to build a really nice gaming/work machine for under3k but we will see how it goes. Thank you for any help\assistance.

Flee bay prices on X99 mother boards are low, used ones can be had for a decent price. not sure on the time release of the new CPU'S, but Id wait see what pops. Worse case buy a CPU that's been out anyway,as always do your research on anything you buy. Keep asking question's knowledge is power, use it.

Yeah I asked the same question about a week ago and all I got was the same BS answer that actually doesnt answer anything we've asked. No one around here seems to know anything on the refresh's for the x99 motherboards. You should start to see them with in the next month or so start to pop up at your favorite retailers. Then shorlty after you will start to see Broadwell-E Cpu's hit the Shelf. So far all I could find was some rumors that ASUS and MSI would have Refresh's. I haven't seen or heard otherwise from Gigabyte or ASrock. Dont listen to those trying to sell you on the Idea of buying the shit boards that are out there now as every one of them have issues. The Refreshed boards will fix all of that and have updated peripherals.

Since they have already had an "USB3.1" refresh of original X99 boards, I don't think you'll see much added to a 2nd refresh round of X99 boards. So if you want the newest boards get something with USB3.1.

I appreciate that. When I was poking around I am a big Asus fan so naturally I was looking at the x99 deluxe with the usb 3.1 refresh. All I seem to be able to find online are issues with all of the x99 boards from all of the manufacturers. Something about USB issues causing random reboots and shorts on the boards etc and its across all of the retailers. I have never seen anything like what im reading before but thats a pretty big risk to take on current boards.

Don't they usually do like second editions or what not when the first ones have issue's(or versions)? I do see tons off issue's with the X99, they have been out for over a year.................
Z170 seem to be similar with iussie's.

Well then your one of the lucky ones that didnt get a shit motherboard. There is like a 90% failure rate as far as I can tell. I base this fact on all the bad reviews vs the good reviews . If this is really the case then I will wait the 3-4 weeks for the new motherboard refreshes to show up. besides all the motherboards your claim that have USB 3.1 are type 1 the refreshes will more then likely have type C and all new worked out Chipsets. Now weather they want to name those version 2 or what ever I dont know but there will be refreshes just like on every other socket.

They may be changing the socket? I seen a few on Flee bay with USB over voltage error, won't boot. I think a ton of people jumped on the X99 band wagon, I seen some scores on HWbot and think I'll never get close to those(5960K). But I think with all those people(just like the X79 people)they found issue's too. So why not wait see what comes out, maybe they will fix a few things as well.........

So the X99 have the USB 3.1 or what ever its called, is this what is having so many issue's on most boards? I see people dumping these boards to get what they can, like a fire sale.

As far as I can tell even one is dumping them cause the USB and Sata controllers die for no reason within days of first boot. Next would be some issue where the PCIe lanes are shared with another I/O not sure which one but its killing off GPU's left and right. Most of the reviews claim they cant even boot any GPU due to this issue.Last I heard or should I say read,The motherboard manufacturers were going to be fixing these issues and isolating each I/O to stop these problems with new Mobo Refreshes.
But its still going to be the same socket type.I Also read they were going to increase the Memory speed the boards accept natively from ddr4 2400 to ddr4 3200 without overclocking if people have those speeds.

Cool Cool, Thanks for sharing Justin!!
So essentially they will be the same board n socket with a new revision?

Nothing about the chipset is being refreshed. You may get newer motherboards with more add-ons features, but as far the as chipset itself, no changes.

You may see boards with more m.2 slots or this that and the other. No new features on BD-E, no features on the mobo.

and x99 motherboads do not have a 90% fail rate. That would absurd and be all over the media.

Yeah, that 90% figure seems quite exaggerated. The most common and serious issue that frequently comes up over various forums is the overvolting with some ASUS x99 boards.Even that issue probably doesn't affect a lot of people.

Exactly. For everyone 1 person that goes out of there way to complain, there are 100s more that are just happy and fine. You just don't hear about them, because they're not complaining. Silly metric to measure something by, reviews.

Seems the thread got side tracked, as long as you buy from like new egg or micro center, or something comparable I see no issue. I don't think they will do much with the boards(but a new version), can get one now then wait see what drops with the new CPU'S for the X99 socket. With memory do your home work make sure its on the mother board compatibility listing, usually memory is listed as good for X99 etc. A gold rated power supply unit will go a long way, in cutting off any problems that would rear there head(your buying top shelf computer don't buy bottom shelf PSU).
Again with any item do your home work first before purchasing, SSD'S the EVO look good and prices are low depending..
Again search n re-search you'll be fine!!!

True, sorry I was just trying to answer everyone questions. Also never said there would be a new chip set. I said there would be motherboard refreshes that would bring USB 3.1 and type C.Also said the manufacturers will be Isolating Shared I/O's and Busses to stop failure rates of those chips burning out.

That board's been out for awhile..
Review, Jan 28..
"..Knowing that they put the same Intel Alpine Ridge on their G1 Z170 boards and advertise TB3, I went over to the G1 page and downloaded the Windows 10 Thunderbolt 3 driver from there. Sure enough, The 'unknown base system device' took these drivers and up popped a thunderbolt 3 controller and the Intel thunderbolt installed. Apparently the only x99 board with native Thunderbolt 3.."

Which is when? It could be months yet, not to mention actually getting your hands on one when they do release.. If you need/want a new PC, just order your X99 setup now. You can always replace the CPU later. I really don't think any mobo refresh is going to have such new features that you wish you waited.
