Broke the heat sink clasp on MoBo: need advise

Hello all!

I was trying to remove the heat sink from my Epox 8K7A motherboard while removing the Heat sink. Is there a way to repair it?

I am not sure if I can use an adhesive to join the broken part. Or, is the slot for cpu replacable?


I would appreciate any help in this regard. Thanks!

It worked for me. Just buy a heatsink that clips to the outer tabs.

I dont think you can super glue it back on, when you clip on that Heatsink it'll just crackoff again. You might have to find a new heatsink that doesn't clip onto your cpu slot rather find a heatsink that bolts into your motherboard around the CPU slot. If theres no holes around the CPU Slot I dont think theres a whole lot you can do.

buy an alpha 8045, it uses the 4 holes in your motherboard to mount. look next to the CPU release lever.

the heatsink only clips onto that 1 tab? Sorry I haven't used many heatsinks that clip the the mobo before

Edit: Like NuclearFusi0n1 said get an Alpha PAL8045 cooler, I have one and it works great. Got Mine Here

yes, buy a hsf that has a 3 tab clip
newegg sells them as well as other places, i always keep one on hand in cases of emergency

What he (Yakko) said. Or buy a new MB. $30-40 at compgeeks sometimes, depending on features. Better yet, both.

Thanks for the replies guys, I am getting tempted to buy a new MB...

However, I think I will buy a new HS for now.
(The older one with a single clip was...um...the cheapest one at Newegg )

that's easy to fix. don't listen to these guys. i broke the same exact thing off my old mobo once. what i did was find a small sturdy piece of medal, and then bend it with pliers into an "L" shape. since the old tab is already broken off, make sure the area is flat so the metal L can rest against the sides better. superglue that sucker on. once it's dried, put some more superglue on. let it dry completely and it viola! i find that it's even stronger than that crappy piece of plastic.

defiintely not as good as the Alpha, but you have another choice.

Taisol 742 or 760 is another good choice. With a little bit of searching, you can likely find a 742 for a third the price of the AX7, or the (copper bottom) 760 for about half. Works great and is fairly quiet.

a lug broke off my old socket 370, and had to change the stock fan sink. they have a lot of fans/sinks out there with triple clips for exactly that purpose. i got a vantec copper sink for 25.00. fit perfect.
