The first time I broke a bone was in the 5th grade. I was playing soccer, fell somehow. I think someone fell on my wrist, I'm not sure. Well anyway, I got up and noticed my wrist was hurting (happens all the time, usually I'll just shake it off). However the wrist was arched pretty badly. It was a pretty bad break.
The second time I broke a bone was just this last May. I was playing basketball with the guys, someone threw me a pass, and it hit my left fingers and went flying past them (hence, I missed the catch). Again, this sort of stuff happens all the time for me. However I look at my finger and I look at my pinky and notice that the top bone (where the fingernail is) is arched up about 45 degrees, and the nail caused a puncture, making it bleed a little bit. Went to the hospital later on, waited like 2 hours, got some X-rays, waited about another 45 minutes. Turns out that the top bone was broken, and the doctor said he never saw anything like that before. Turns out I would have to get it set back in place. However, the orthopedic was on call and would not be able to do it that night. I would be able to see him the next morning. They just put an aluminum slint on it, gave me a pill and sent me home. The next day I went to the orthopedic and he got down to business. He gave me about 4 shots around me finger (digital blocks), grabbed my finger and started to move it in all sorts of directions. (I should've said, "Pull my finger..". Got an X-ray taken once again, but it wasn't quite straight. So he did it again, but by this time the medicine wore off a bit...and he even had some guy hold my hand so it could do more with the finger, it didn't feel good. Well, another X-ray should that the finger was okay, but it wouldn't be exactly straight, but it wouldn't be too noticeable either. The other alternative was to have a pin in the finger. I chose the later. The earliest I would be able to have the surgery was that night. GREAT. After all that, I would have to go into surgery. He gave me some orders for antibiotics, pain medicine. The surgery went okay .. but the pin was a pain in the ... booty. About a week later I started to notice my finger was getting black and swelling .. went to the hosptial thinking it was an infection (waited like 3 hours), turned out to be a big blister. Had the pin in for about 6 weeks, but I accidently ripped it out a couple of days before the appointment I was supposed to have it. Lost that finger nail as a result, too.
About two weeks later I was playing basketball again, almost broke my nose. Gosh, I need to learn how to catch.
