Been looking for a deal on this printer, but the only coupon I could find was on-line only and the rebate is for in-store only. Anybody find an in-store coupon?

the rebate isn't for an in-store purchase only.

buy this online for a better deal. shipping is free.

ripped from another site: OfficeDepot has the Brother HL-1440 Laser Printer for $148 - $30 off $150 coupon 82593949 - $50 rebate = $70 w/ free shipping. Add $2 more (pens) to meet the coupon minimum. The rebate works for online orders as long as you do not live in Hawaii or Alaska.

The wording on the rebate form is quite confusing:

"The product must be purchased in-store only, not valid on website purchases in Alaska and Hawaii between October 3, 2004 and October 9, 2004"

Got skrooed on a rebate once before at Office Depot (they lost my UPC label and, my fault, I hadn't made a copy). Don't trust 'em.

I have this printer and it is awesome! Just BW, but it is great for BW stuff. It came with a intro toner which is suppossed to only last for a short while, making you buy a more capacity (whatever you call it) toner cartridge. We have had the same cartridge in for about a year now and have printed quite a bit of stuff off of it. It is crazy how long it has lasted. A lot cheaper than a inkjet printer.

I agree. Seems questionable to me.

moshquerade may be right (diamond member after all), but the rebate fine print could be used to refuse the $50 rebate if the printer is not bought in the store. If the rebate were a lower amount, then the risk would be worth it. But, 8 weeks later, if the rebate is rejected, the deal is not so hot. I'll pick one up in the store and pay the extra few dollars to still get the printer at about 1/3rd off every other online site.

The coupon code that I located for $30 off $150 clearly states that printers are excluded from the rebate. Perhaps there is a different coupon available that I missed however. YMMV

This is a strange sentence. Is this two seperate statements, or a single statement?

Except for the dates, why would Alaska and Hawaii be different?

Past OD in-store rebates were very clear. The in-store requirement was clearly displayed in the artwork, not in the small type.

I guess that someone should call for confirmation.

The $30 off does work for this printer - I got as far as putting it in my cart and added some tape. The discount showed up on my total.

Unfortunately, the $30 applies to on-line only - don't think checking with store personnel would guarantee that they would honor the rebate.

Sent an e-mail to the Office Depot Online Help [odhelp@expressgroup.com] asking about it and got a worthless canned response that ignored my question:

Dear Consumer,

Thank you for your rebate inquiry. At this time we will require some additional information from you to locate your record in our system. May we please have your full name and mailing address that you provided on the rebate form? Also, can you please provide us with the city and state that you mailed your rebate to? Thank you and have a wonderful day.

Thanks, Moshq. ? Thanks, Rasput.
I just lined everything up as listed and it jumped thru the hoops.
$82 AR & AC. Of course, I ordered a big $5 upgrade on the pens.

Buy this printer. We use this in the office and we have two fax machines using the same toner. Ebay toner price is $35. Drum the same. The drum can be reset. These printers are used everyday and abused. We go through several reams a day. They are just as reliable as the HP, Xerox et al and the cost per page is remarkable. If you have the room give one to every employee and use the color laser for networking and backup. I have five of these in the warehouse unopened. When the rollers are used up just throw away the printer. The cost/benefit of this printer is off the chart! We have 5 of these and gave the HP 4050N away to charity!

Ordered mine on-line and send rebate and got confirmation of the rebate: "We are pleased to advise that your entry is being processed and has been qualified. Please allow for 10-12 weeks for the delivery of your check/product. "

I got this printer. I immediately bought the extra 24MB RAM. Its awesome. Only thing it lacks is font downloads or some such that I read about on their other printer. But I can't tell. The thing is razor sharp and quick. Oh and yea, I'm still on the original cheezy low volume toner that comes with it. Lol, If you want to know what a low volume buy a Lexmark because this thing is still printing.

Addl RAM: this printer uses the old-style FPM or EDO 72 pin SIMM memory. Used memory from old Pentium-1 class computers works fine, of buy at very little cost (look on pricewatch.com, for example).

Two megs are on the main board (not enough for 600 dpi printing) and you can add one stick of 72 pin memory in 4 meg, 8 meg, 16 meg or 32 meg. An 8 meg chip seems enough for most tasks. I have seen people post that they have used a 64 meg SIMM, but I haven't tried this. I have used 8, 16 and 32 in various HL-1440s.

The rebate form for Dec 26 thru Jan 1 says nothing about where the purchase must be made, only "To qualify for this rebate you must purchase a Brother HL-1440 Mono Laser Printer at Office Depot."

I made the purchase in-store just to be safe...they MATCHED the website pricing on both this printer and a chair, plus I applied a $15 coupon-code to the order. So I'll get a total of $75 back (two $30 rebates, $15 coupon), plus I saved off their in-store pricing.

Uh, read your first sentence svern! You contradict yourself! "must purchase a brother HL-1440 Mono Laser Printer at Office Depot."

Thanks for the RAM info!! Only used in P-I class computers? I'll ask around at work if anyone has one to scrap and look for some free RAM! The oldest computer I have left is the kids P-III 500.
