Brother HL-2070N Laser Printer $99 AR @ Staples.com

Inspired by the 5250 thread, which is an awesome deal, I've been looking around for a personal printer and am just weighing whether or not it's worth $80 for duplexing. I'm a home user, so duty cycle and such don't matter, but I digress.

Staples has the Brother 2070N, ethernet ready (USB too, but no cables included), at $99 after a $20 ER.

Seems like a pretty good price on a solid brand of laser printer, reasonable toner prices ($63 for the standard, $104 for the high capacity at staples, probably better deals elsewhere).

this is a great deal. with this printer i can hook my printer up to my wireless router and print from anywhere in the house from my wireless laptop. no need to plug the printer into my laptop or plug the printer into another computer to share it. an excellent price for a name brand network laser printer.

also i'm showing it as $150 - $50 MIR or ER = $100. am i missing something?

Not to run up my own thread, but does anyone have experience using this printer with envelopes or labels? Does it curl paper pretty easily?

I have had a 2070N for about 6 months now and it has worked flawlessly. Brother machines really have impressed me lately. My father in law purchased one of there all in one units that have built in wireless! But this laser for $99 is a solid buy. As long as your printer is near your router it works flawlessly from vista (automatically installs driver). The printer is not the quietest when printing but its quiet when its done and sitting there.

warm at best--was $90 with free shipping at Buy.com just a few weeks ago. Good personal printer with a low, unobstrusive profile. Two cons--small toner capacity (2500 pages) with relatively high per page cost; second--this applies to all Brother printers--the cooling fan keeps whirling for 10-15 min after printing even though the printer has long entered sleep mode (on other brands such as Minolta and Lexmark the fan shuts off immediately after printing). If you don't need networkability, HL-2040, which has the same processor with a little less memory and no network connection, can be found at much lower price with rebate.

Amazon has the low yield toner cartridge for $43 - TN-350; and the high yield (6000 pages) for $62 - TN-450, which comes to about 1 cent per page.

By the way, what is the drum unit?

it's DR350, good for 12k pages, for about $90-100. A compatible toner (TN-350) costs in the $30's after shipping. At this price, you might as well get a new HL-2040 instead of buying a new drum (not very eco-friendly, I know).

I meant what is a drum unit? How come I would have to replace that too in addition to the toner cartridge?

The drum transfers the toner to the paper.

As I recall the prices were amazing compared to retail
My old dead Brother laser used the same toner and drum cartridge #s
The toner is easily refillable if you are up to it.
