Not to thread crap, but beware when buying from this particular company. Last week fry's was running a special on the Brother 5 in 1 scanner, copier, fax, etc etc machine. To make things short I had to return it twice. Once because the paper would not be pulled in to copy, fax or scan. Twice because it kept jamming up when trying to do any of the actions above. So beware when purchasing from this company.

The $20 off $75 coupons that I tried were not valid for these items (tech), but there is a $30 off $150 that works on many tech items (including this one), so I added a spare toner cart and got out for $130 including tax for the printer and a spare toner.

I got it 2 days ago with my free 5"TV they included with free shipping. These printers are called disposable printers cuz the toner cost just much as the printer themselves. I am planning to buy 8 more; keep the toner and the TV and just fleebay or give away the printer to the employee of the month.

This printer is a solid performer for most people. It is true that the long life TN-460 toner costs just under what the printer itself costs and it is the toner that you need. But, a new printer costs just over what the toner costs and after a lot of use, you can pull the drum out of the new printer and use it also.

When you factor the drum, you're dead on right. Drum should last around 10k pages, though, and toner is 3k or 6k, I think.

So when I'm done with my initial toner and the replacement one, I'll just go get me a new printer!

megatoners has a Brother compatible hi-cap. toner cartridge for $30.

I've had an HL1240 for several years, and it has been exceptionally reliable. They seem to have much better reliability than low-end HP's. The HL1440 was a Consumer Reports Best Buy just a couple of months ago.

I have a brother hl-1440, I only had it for a few weeks so I can say it's been flawless. However, I heard from many people it does start having problems later on. Most of the reviews happen not too long after someone buys the printer, but if you speak to the same owners 6 months or a year later they have different responses. Seeing streaks across the pages is a very common thing.

If your printing a lot wouldn't it make sense to get a real printer? Not these disposeable ones, but ones that won't break.

I have two Xerox Phaser Printers $2,500 each for the office, three photo printers canon i9900, and soon to be 18 of these under $200 disposable laser printers. (brother, Hp, and Samsung) If there are any good deals of the Samsung Laser ML-2000's series let me know. From experience, I think Samsungs hold up the best.
We refill the laser printers, but the toners don't go too far when we print 4-5k per day.

Staples now has this Brother 1440 printer for 99 bucks.. Their regular price is 149.. They also had a Minolta Kardona or something for 99.. I think ink is expensive for these thing.. I'll try to dig up links.. I was in store today looking at them.
