The guy replacing Mike brown is the same guy that recommended we stock up on duct tape in case of a biological or chemical attack. (How the fvck is that supposed to help?). In other words, someone who might even make Brownie look smart.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8514671/

It's been said you can judge a man by the friends he keeps. What does this say about Bush?

This whole concept of populating the government with your old fishing buddies may seem folksy and project exactly the kind of "man of the people" image Bush is going for. But at some point he just needs to accept that he doesn't know any smart people and maybe start hitting the deeper end of the talent pool.

I always found it interesting how it appeared during the entire first term that Colin Powell was being shut out of whatever inner circle Bush had. Despite holding a very important position, he never quite seemed to "fit in". The reason I found that interesting is that I think Colin Powell was by far the most intelligent member of Bush's first term team, the fact that HE is the one cut out of things tells me a lot.

I hope he doesn't reccomend us duct tape our houses when another major flood hits. It probably won't work!

Guys, just a quick bone to pick. I lived in Israel, and during the Gulf War we did have duct tape on our windows. Granted that was to reflect the bomb blast outwards, but it does have it's uses.

What exactly did he say about duct tape?

But it looks like he has some sort of experience at least so I'm not sure what the huge problem is...

He said to stock up on duct tape and plastic sheeting to cover your windows in case there is a chemical or biological attack.

People died from asphyxiation after doing this because no air got into their house.

No, but you can use the duct tape to patch the holes in your boat made out of prison raincoats, like the one they used to prove the escape from Alcatraz was possible on Mythbusters.

The guy does have the experience.

"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Americans have apparently heeded the U.S. government's advice to prepare for terror attacks, emptying hardware store shelves of duct tape.

On Tuesday, less than 24 hours after U.S. Fire Administrator David Paulison described a list of useful items, stores in the greater Washington, D.C. area reported a surge in sales of plastic sheeting, duct tape, and other emergency items.

These items, Paulison said, can be helpful after a biological, chemical or radiological attack.

A Lowe's hardware store in Alexandria, Virginia, said every roll of duct tape has been sold. Another Alexandria Home Depot store reported sales of duct tape tripled overnight.

"Everything that was on that newscast, we are selling a lot of it," said Rich Pierce with a Home Depot in the D.C. area.

In his advisory, Paulison recommended that households have on hand three days worth of water and food; an emergency supply kit for both home and automobile; radios with extra batteries; and plastic sheeting and duct tape to seal windows and doors. (What to do)

With concerns growing about al Qaeda's interest in acquiring weapons of mass destruction, Paulison cautioned that aid after an attack could be hard to come by, at least initially.

He said that in the first 48 to 72 hours of an emergency, many Americans will likely to have to look after themselves.(Red Cross on preparedness)

If an attack occurs, Paulison said, households should tune in to local media outlets and not evacuate unless they are told to do so.

President Bush's Homeland Security Council raised the national threat level from yellow to orange on Friday. Orange indicates a "high" risk of terrorist attack, and yellow indicates an "elevated" risk.

The level was raised in part because of a high amount of "chatter" being intercepted by intelligence agencies.

When the Department of Homeland Security urged Americans on Monday to take steps to prepare for a possible attack, it said the advice was intended not as a "dire" warning but as cautionary advice. "

actually the duct tape is sound and constructive advice!!

If you use it to seal the doors and the windows you will have a better chance of surviving a chemical or a biological attack!!!

That was commonly known even during ww1 and ww2!!
Only back then they used regular old household tape!!!

Way too many who don`t have a clue!!!

I bet if Powell was in charge of FEMA everyone would have finally gotten some Shock and Awe from this administration.

Do you have a link about people actually dying after that?

I don't necessarily think that his advice (the short bit that I've seen here) was actually that horrrendous or anything.

If Duct Tape and plastic keep me alive during a chemical attack then I'm happy.

People here did not read the report.

How in the world is tape going to reflect a bomb blast? The only thing tape can do to window glass is hold the broken shards together. It keeps them or some of them from becoming deadly missiles.

One reason the duct tape and plastic sheeting suggestion generated so much ridicule was because it was dangerous. In order to protect yourself from contaminated air, you have to create an air tight seal. You suffocate. This goofball left the part about having a filtration system.

Israel touts that all its citizens own gas masks. Protective masks have filters. Most Israelis don't even know how to put it on, fit it, seal it etc.

The bomb blast would be small and the purpose would be to disperse the chemical. The plastic would keep the air inside a room protected of course how much air and how long it would last is a question but so is the type of chemical and which way the wind is blowing.

Some chemicals and biological warfare would not need an explosion.

No, that is what you do if you are on fire.

Hell I dont know all my knowledge comes from South Park.

No it was in the first or second season. the episode where there was a volcano and it was going to level the town ( the scuzzlebut, with patrick duffy episode ). I saw a clip on how the writers came up with the video how to survive a volcano and it was duck and cover. Well that came from a goverment had how to survive a atomic attack.
