Browsing a Windows network with Linux

How can I setup this Mandrake 8.1 machine to work on my Windows network? Thanks in advanced.

What exactly do you want to do with it? Get networking in general working or get SMB to work?

If general networking, RTFM. If SMB, RTFM, but do it at samba.org

Sorry, but the f-in' manual for Mandrake makes no mention of network or LAN, hell, either of these terms aren't even listed.

Did you load modules for your network card? ifconfig -a and give me the output. And there is more than 1 FM. (linuxdoc.org)

The network card is configured correct as far as I can tell, it can get to the internet, it just can't browse the Windows network the rest of the machines are on. I'll have to check out that site, thanks.

are you using kde or gnome? if you're using gnome, are you using nautilus?

I'm using KDE, but I just restarted the computer to take out my soundcard and now it doesn't load the GUI, it leaves me at a command line asking for my user login. Hmm

Enter your login and password and type "startx". See if you have samba installed. I think smbclient is what you use to mount SMB shares.

Try thisLinNeighbourhood You need to some other things running first..dont let the mandrake distro fool you into thinking its all point and click.
