Coming soon?

http://sti.jp/index.html

I'm hearing two rumors at the moment:

1. Engine tweaks to 230's HP, 6 pot fronts, 4 pot rears, and suspension goodies

2. No Engine mods, and just suspension/brake mods that are "from the STi team".

I always liked the look of this car....I'm not sure why they don't make a stupid fast model.

The post you linked to says the $41k version is not an STi version but a tS (tuned by Subaru) version. No power change from base car only some bolt ons and suspension tuning. Seems like +50% price for not much difference.

Too bad. This is a car I'd really love with an extra 50hp or so. Stick a 2.5l WRX engine in it and call it a day. Doesn't even have to be the sti version.

Needs about 400-500 hp without adding more than 200 lbs. *Then* it would be worthy of the hype it had/has. Price would obviously rocket.

That's disappointing. Might as well spring for a 135is if the price keeps creeping up that much.

Yeah I keep going back and forth between getting a BMW 135i now, reasonably priced AP2 S2000 + daily driver, a hotter version BRZ, or just holding out till the next WRX or Miata

That car really needed to be a 305hp AWD STi with two doors.

I really don't understand the departure from AWD. Or why Toyota is selling it as a Scion. I realize it keeps it cheap to have it RWD, but man, that could be my DD if it was AWD!

What about RWD keeps it from DD material? I mean snow is the usual answer, but that's mostly FUD.

Snow. I have to be at work even if there's a foot of snow. Gotta have something that can at least plow through.

That's not really a valid argument with modern cars and modern tires. I drove through multiple snow storms in RWD and FWD with no major hiccups.

Good thing it's not AWD- this is a sports car which should always be RWD. If you want 4WD there's a dozen other Subarus to pick from.

Somehow everyone managed it in the days of nose-heavy V8s with RWD, no ABS, no traction control, shitty snow tires, and poor road maintenance.

:whiste:

Just sayin' I've slugged my old Crown Victoria through plenty of deep snow with no real issues.

Blah blah blah uphill both ways

There's also the discussion point that weight helps a lot with RWD in the snow

Not particularly, my CV had a rear weight distribution of 44%, very sad.

And it's not weight, it's weight:tire width. Just get narrower tires for a lighter car.

IMO the FRS/BRZ are just overpriced. The regular model that is out now is 25k+, I can't imagine what the new and improved model will go for.

This, especially with what the Mustang GT brings to the table at the moment.

Yes, yes, I know - styling, interior, etc. But 420 HP for ~$31k street price vs. 200 HP for nearly $30k street price.
