BSOD on shutdown?!!!!!

OK Only sometimes when i goto start>shutdown i click ok, disconnects from DSL and clears Desktop to a blackscreen. 1 second before it goes to the "Please wait while your computer Shuts down." it hangs then brings up the BSOD(Blue Screen Of Death) and says -

A fatal exception in modeual OE 0028:C17B9E5A. The current operation will be shutdown.

Then it "Hangs" on the blackscreen and sits there. I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and choose shutdown, no luck. I close the 4 remaining programs which are

1. MSG32
   Mdm
   Msgloop
   En4060ct

Anything i need to check, without goin into my Comp? I dont know what might becausing it. I have installed 2 programs before this started to occur. ZoneAlarm Pro and Norton Anti-Virus 2000.

hm... try and disconnect your DSL, before you shutdown.. just to see if that works.. go to windows update and update!!

has a few shutdown fixes.. hope this helps..

tried to get the updates BUT when i hit download to get them, nothing happens, just my luck...

I have read multiple places that Norton causes system problems. Some people love it and defend it zealously. Other people hate it. Try removing the last 2 items one at a time to see if one alleviates the problem.

Is the En4060ct in reference to a USB DSL modem? I had one and it caused problems (not to mention the driver was completely incompatible with Live sound card driver...had to remove my sound card and driver). After a few phone calls to tech support at my ISP (multiple connection problems) they informed me the USB modem (Speedstream 4060) was a very buggy modem and I elected to change to the NIC connected modem.

This was almost a year ago so possibly they have improved the USB modems.

Nope, the 4060 still sucks. I deal w/ them on a daily basis for PacBell DSL. If there is such thing as a win-dslmodem, this would be it. I would request a switch for an ethernet modem.

Sounds like a weinie up in an office somewhere needs a slap up/long side his head, for letting the 4060 snafu continue on for so long. How these idiots keep their jobs for so long has always amazed me.

so far so good, i disabled MDM - Machine Debug Manager and a restart went smooth, when i shutdown ill keep ya updated


i cant keep ya updated when im shutdown, ya know what i mean LOL

hmm was MDM = Machine Debug Manager... what kind of conflict wound that have coused to make me get a BSOD?! Ohh well problem fixed..


EDIT - BTW thx to all the people who helped me out
