BSOD Please Help

Right after the windows loading screen I get the blue screen of death.

This is the error message:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

or

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

any ideas?

Switch PCI cards around if you have an IRQL conflict. You won't get many responses because this is the wrong forum for technical support.

everyone gets IRQ crashes, try switching your network card or sound card around

Bad drivers can do this. So can memory errors from either a bad stick of RAM or an unstable overclock.
Switching PCI cards around won't help, though. It's not an IRQ conflict.

IRQL has nothing to do with IRQ's. It's most likely a driver issue, or like Green man said, could be the memory as well. It might help if you post your system stats..

Are you overclocking? Added any new hardware? Is this a new build, or something you've had for a while and this problem just started. PLEASE be more informative, or it's very difficult to help..

Ah that's the most common BSOD
It's mostly RAM and driver problem.
Try pressing F8 just before Windows loadup screen and choose "User las known good configuration"
Or try going to Safe mode and do a system restore

This was not a new build. I've had this computer for quite some time. I was doing a fresh install of windows (formatting). I started by installing windows, than SP2, directx, chipset drivers, video drivers, and sound dirvers. My final step was to connect the the net and do windows updates. As I was downloading the updates the BSOD poped up. It automatically restarted and now it cannot get past the wondows loading screen. It just keeps rebooting after the windows screen.

I have 1 Gb of Mushkin PC3500 (2 sticks of 512). I tried removing one stick at a time to see if it was bad RAM, but that didn't help.

I also reset the BIOS to optimal defaults.

I have never had this error before. How can I determine exactly what it is?

System Stats:
Abit AN7, Athlon 2500+, 1GB Mushkin PC3500, ATI Radeon 9800, Audigy 2 ZS

So a windows update gotcha. I have seen this before on a server (of course, that was a windows 2000 machine, but sounds very similar). Had to go and uninstall the offending patch. Kinda tricky though. Did you have SP1 on before you went up? Maybe better to download and install SP2 "before" you connect to windows update to get your patches. Since you just newly setup the box, I would recommend reformatting and reinstalling again.

I did install windows SP2 before I coonected to the net. I have it on a CD.

Why would Windows updates cause BSODs on only my machine?

I had this happen to me on a NF3 socket 754 build about a month ago. I reset to the restore point that was created automatically when I did the install and then loaded the latest Forceware drivers off the web. Everything was fine. I am fairly sure it was a driver issue.
