BTX cases out already? Wha-?

I was looking at some CoolerMaster cases and lo and behold I ran into this, nice case - and BTX compliant. Huh? I thought that wasn't going to be out for a while? Whats with this BTX standard anyway, any real point to it?

BTW, are CoolerMaster powersupplies any good?

I wonder how that's supposed to be BTX compliant. BTX motherboards are supposed to go on the left side instead of the right side of the case. Also, last I heard BTX was being re-worked by Intel.

I really hope it doesn't come out. 1) We don't need it. 2) Seems like an excuse to raise the price of everything.

To late, FrozenCPU and Atacom already have them in stock. Hopefully I can find one somewhere a little cheaper though.

We dont really need anything, and it is not a excuse. With vidoe cards putting as much heat out as processors, we are going to need to change the design of somethings.

BTW that case is UGLY.

This really pisses me off. I have some nice Antec ATX cases laying around and I don't know when I will use them.

OTOH, since Intel in "Follow AMD" mode now they should just let AMD figure out the new form factor, copy it and then take credit.

None of our cases on here need an upgrade. We will not need an upgrade even when Video cards are running at 3 GHz!!! The reason; we understand computer temps. The only reason BTX is needed is for the big manufactures (ie Dell, Gateway, Hp, ?etc). Because they don?t give a rats posterior about temps. My mom got a new computer not to long ago, I was looking at it and the only fan in the whole computer was the exhaust fan on the PSU!!! The video and north bridge where passive. No intake fan to speak of either. I?ve started to notice that we are in the very back of Intel?s mind. They don?t care if our case temps are in the mid 30s, because we are the minority.

I have 6 low RPM case fans, moving a lot of air, no BTX form factor is going to keep my temps any lower than they are right now. If happen to find myself in a few months upgrading to one of the heat producing 6850 ultras, I can always set the fans to medium!!!!!

Personally I like BTX. Maybe you could do better, but compared to the anceint ATX design it's a 150% improvement.

I don't know why people like the ATX so much... Compared to other case designs I've screwed around with it usually ends up being a very sloppy way to set up a computer.

I think that is one good looking case. Then again, I like huge, manly cases. :thumbsup:

IMO, it's nice to see manufacturers getting into BTX mode by offering these "dual form factor cases." Just like when DDR first showed up, there were a few mobos that supported both PC133 and PC 1600/2100.

Just remember; in the computing world, nothing stands still for long. If it werent' for evolution, we'd all still be using 286DX computers and runnign programs off 5.25" floppies.

For me it's not about being in love with ATX, it's that I haven't seen BTX demonstrated as an improvement for tower cases - like this one. For a compact computer like the crammed together little desktop shown in Anand's article it makes sense, but how is it a 150% improvement in a mid tower design? How's that "thermal module" (duct) going to perform when someone builds their own system and uses an Abit board where the CPU socket is 1/2" off from where the socket is on an Asus? Then an Alpha heatsink it fitted in place on this Abit in an Enermax case...if things fit together at all how's that going to perform? Time will tell, but at present I haven't seen it demonstrated as an improvement.

Love that crossflow fan though. Would like to see more caged fans like that used, they can move a lot of air query quietly as air filtration manufacturers have known for years. Maybe I'll like BTX more when I get one and then trash the stock thermal module and put a blower in place to push air over the CPU...while drawing air through the side with a slip in place filter that doesn't take away from the front panel looks or functionality. Hmm...

Edit - Yes, the idea for that blower shamelessly stolen from this overclockers.com article. Good read for those who missed it back in 2001.

That is one DEEP case. 21" tall is not bad, but 23" deep. Have to relocate my PC to accomdate that depth.
