Bubbling Sound in Headphone

Hi

I have a slight problem with my headphones recently where I sometimes get a bubbling like sound during games, music and even normal desktop use. The strange thing is that the problem disapears as quickly as it appears so its not a constant thing.

Heres the thing though; I earlier spilled a little diet coke on the inside of one of my headphones. It was very little and has now been dried off fir a couple hours.

I should note I heard the sound in BOTH headphone cups despite only spilling it in 1 cup.

Could it be my soundcard? I dont think its in the best shape either...

Thanks

Yes, it could be the soundcard. Are you using an add-on or on-board? If an add-on, if you switch to on board, that would help isolate the problem.

I shall go and try another pair, I'm assuming trying earbuds would also be useable to test but I'll have to wait a week to do it as I'm not home at the moment.

I was using an Asus Xonar D2 but recently it just stopped making any sound at all. So now I have switched over to my motherboard sound. For a while the motherboard sound was working fine but then I got this...

Just curious, but is it bad to routinely turn hardware on and off from the hardware manager? You see, Call of Duty World at War does not play audio with the Xonar so I had to use motherboard sound for it. So what I had been doing was running both of them and disabling one or the other according to what I was doing. Could that have had an effect on the Xonar?

Not sure about yourt last question - I don't do games at all. Are you referring to Device Manager in Control Panel or Safely Remove Hardware in the Notification Area?

Well in XP what I was doing was going to the hardware manager (not remove hardware) and then enabling or disabling the Xonar D2 when needed in order to play CoD.

Still, I think this problem is resolved. I just did a clean install of vista, got a new motherboard and ditched the Xonar and so far everything is working fine. My gut says something was wrong with the Xonar since the headphones were working fine with my PSP.

For the record, Asus tech support sucks. I'm still waiting for a reply from them for 2 months about the Call of Duty issue...

Thanks to all for the help.
