Group of friends went to the Mid-America Motorsports Complex in Iowa last weekend for a track event. I feel it's my duty as a friend to make sure as many people as possible are aware of the only real driving mishap I've ever seen him make. Luckily this is also the one I have on tape. Spin is near the end.

Also, check out our new toy.. GPS data logger that lets us overlay friction circle, track postion, speed, and rpm's onto our videos. We can pretend to be all professional and crap. =) This particular car didn't have rpm cable hooked up, but you get the idea.

That was a waste of time with all that extra footage. And it would be a lot nicer without the cheesy music. After waiting that long I was expecting something much more grand.

Long video.

Of course he spun he was driving a Ferrari, wouldn't have happened if he was driving a Porsche with PCS heh

His lines on the track didn't look as good as the film car either.

At least his car didn't spin into a wall of something.

What car was the footage shot in?

Man everyone's a critic. The video wasn't just for the spin. Driver was goofing around with in-car footage. Considering I said it was at the end I don't have all that much sympathy for those complaining.

MrWizzard: It's funny you bring up PSM... the 996 Carrera4 that they pass on the front straight is another good friend and we're always having the stability control battle. I don't think PSM would have helped much here, but there's no way to know.

The driving is obviously up for critique.. but none of us are professionals, and this is only a few small shots of MANY laps that day.. not to mention it was the 2nd lap overall. I was stuck working this weekend so they had all the fun without me, but it's a hell of a time.

Er yea PSM,

Really? Maybe your friend has the older software/flash for his Porsche.

I did a racing class in Atlanta Georgia a while back and the instructors would turn it on in the cars and tell us to try to spin it. It was pretty aggressive. I couldn't get the car to loose control. It was weird having the car take over like that. Not sure if I liked it but it made it so much safer in slippery conditions.

Are you sure he has the PSM and not the traction control of the earlier gen 996s.

My dad has an old 996 TT from 97 and it just has the traction control for the AWD, so it does not save you if you start to slide sideways or anything.

Anyway, track days are fun. I have some film too, it always seem like you are going so much faster when you are in the car and the film makes it seem slower then you remember huh.

EDIT: OH he had a Carrera4, pretty sure he would be ok, he had 4 wheels pulling form him and PSM. AWD FTW, AWD+PSM = pretty hard to spin, I was in the 2wd at the track and was impressed with PSM

Y'know Wizzard you might be right.. The main fight is whether or not it slows you down... I think it does if you're a really solid driver and pushing the car to it's limits. PSM will be more conservative than one would want to be if you're trying to get every tenth out of the lap time. As far as saving that spin, it may definitely have had an effect.

bR: VERY cool. This is the main reason we got it: http://www.trackpedia.com/wiki/MAM_telemetry_for_2003_Nissan_350Z
