Completed the form per instructions:

PLEASE when you POST threads asking for input on system builds tell us
...

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

internet and online mmo's

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

4-500 usd

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

usa, newegg microcenter

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.

nope

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

*psu, keyboard, mouse

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

default

8. What resolution will you be using?

1024 x 768

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Note that it is usually not cost or time effective to choose your build more than a month before you actually plan to be using it.

* now

X. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?

i have a copy of xp, need something better

Basically my system is old/ atm nonfunctional, and I want to get into the modern times but I'm not a heavy gamer so I don't need the best. I have a new psu but the rest of my stuff is from ide times. I just surf the net and play some mmo's. Can you help me with a budget build? Thanks.

What sort of psu do you have? Brand, wattage?
Since you only have $400 to spend on parts ($100 for win7), a cheap build around an intel celeron like the G630-G850 (<$70) with integrated graphics would work for you.

or perhaps a motherboard / CPU bundle from MC?

CPU / Mobo - core i3 3225 + Biostar h77 mobo = $150 (you have to purchase in store. The combo savings is $40 off the motherboard when paired with that CPU)

RAM - 8GB Crucial Balistic at MC $29 http://www.microcenter.com/product/...l_Desktop_Memory_Kit_(Two_4GB_Memory_Modules)

Storage - 2TB Barracuda $99 (you can buy something a little smaller to save $20 or so) http://www.microcenter.com/product/...ATA_60Gb-s_35_Internal_Hard_Drive_STBD2000101

Case - NZXT $39 / $28 after rebate http://www.microcenter.com/product/378074/Classic_Series_Source_210_Mid_Tower_ATX_Computer_Case

that puts you at about $320 for the parts listed above. You can buy a smaller hard drive and save $20 to $30, but you end up with a third or half the storage. Up to you..

You can try the integrated graphics on the i3 cpu for now and see how it works. At the resolution you are playing it won't make sense to invest in a gpu yet. Save some money for a 10080p monitor and a video card
