just a matter of time before it all comes crashing down, and it wont be as long as some would expect, likely before 2020.

Problem is the Dems will most likely take the House. So Trump, Fox, and republicans at large will say "well if WE had control of the house we could fix it. Instead its the democrats fault...".

Having a big deficit when the economy is bad is understandable, that's what is supposed to happen. You put away money when times are good, and spend it when times are bad. That's true for individuals, it's true for companies, and it should be true for countries.

This however is a big deficit when the economy is good, which makes you wonder what is going to happen when times are bad, and you've already built up a huge debt. The Republican congress is busy spending like drunken sailors, and the bill is going to come due eventually. The idea that Paul Ryan is a fiscal conservative is the biggest lie in Washington.

When times turn bad the GOP intends to have our govt in the position where we can't afford to spend counter cyclically.

That's right. Oh, and FYGM, by the way. Y'all shoulda been rich.

It seems like welfare for the uber-wealthy is far more expensive than Universal Healthcare and free education...you know, things that are inarguably fundamental goods for humanity.

Anyone have any kind of hope that gaslit conservatives will ever wake the fuck up and do some simple math for once?

Meanwhile, the top .001% pay about the same federal income tax rate as people making $85K & the income share of the top 1% has more than doubled since 1980.

Social programs aren't the problem. Greed at the top & gaslighted conservatives are the problem.

McConnell is telling Bloomberg News that he's worried about he deficit (lol) and inability of Democrats to agree with them in cutting Medicare/Medicaid/Social security to fix it.

That sound you hear is every D running for office anywhere rushing to cut new ads. Seems like he's riding a bit too high from the Kavanaugh confirmation and is overconfident because this is political malpractice.

This always eats at me. I pay a Social Security payment. That money is for one purpose, to pay for Social security. If you are going to cut it, then cut what I pay into it!

Well, you know we'd like to do that for you but you see we already cut the SS contributions of the rich through the earnings cap and not subjecting capital gains to the SS tax so that there really isn't any way to accommodate your desire.

Here's a message from Mitch & the GOP-

"For you, we have cornholio. That's right. Do I need to spell that? The Rich now rule. You suck. You ain't shit. Y'all were really stupid to believe in us & trickle down economics all these years and now you'll pay dearly. Retire? You'll work 'til you drop, chump, rather than end up dirt poor."

Answer: Our resident GOP members and former Obama deficit bashers?

Am I right? Am I right? Did I win?

You WIN!!!!

What did you win, you ask? A thread without having to listen to their dumb asses!

Congrats! Although we kind of all win, right?

But the reality is that we all lose

Is this part and parcel of the GOP plan to starve the beast? Take revenues away from the gov't that could've been spent on essential social services and hand it all over to the wealthy so they can spend it on keeping their pet politicians in office?

How the hell can Trump's working class supporters ignore shit like this when it directly affects their pocketbooks, their health and their future earnings potential I'll never know or claim to understand.

Because the right wing propaganda machine has them absolutely dialed in over emotional wedge issues.

Are they uneducated or simply willfully ignorant? Do you see any of our resident righties in this thread? Do you think it's because they aren't aware of it or do you think it's because they've trained themselves to ignore uncomfortable truths?

McConnell wants you to take a cut in Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid to pay for these corporate tax cuts.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...ames-entitlements-not-gop-for-rising-deficits
Note that he also doesn't want to let the government negotiate prescription drug prices, so it won't be big pharma eating these cuts, it will be you.
I told my neighbors that the pittance they were saving in their taxes because of Trump would have a far larger cost later. They just couldn't accept something though that wasn't already affecting them.

wtf?!

"McConnell said it would be “very difficult to do entitlement reform, and we’re talking about Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid,” with one party in charge of Congress and the White House.

I think it’s pretty safe to say that entitlement changes, which is the real driver of the debt by any objective standard, may well be difficult if not impossible to achieve when you have unified government,” McConnell said."

Because they're afraid of the public backlash so Democrats have to step up and share the blame.

At first I was pissed off about the idea of cutting "entitlements" that have been coming out of my paycheck for the past 34 years. But I have worked hard and finally funded my own retirement to the point where SSI isn't a factor. So I say fuck the ignorant deplorable bastards that voted for this shit. Good luck with your new job as a Walmart greeter when your 68 years old, I'll be out hunting and fishing.
