Happy to see that my 3.5 year old 4870 is listed in High Performance category. Gonna be a long 4 week wait!

LOL, I just thought the same thing, I wonder if having the 512 MB vs. 1GB version will end up making a difference at 1080p, or if the 4870 is just going to be too weak to use more than half a gig of VRAM.

Get a 6850/6870 both should be able to max Diablo 3, but you can get the 6870 for a bit more to be on the safe side. Or get the GTX 460 256bit if you want Nvidia's AO settings in Diablo 3 and can avoid all the crippled cards out there.

I'm looking at the 6870 Snowshredder102 posted a link to. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150561

Also considering the 560. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130661

Only a $10 difference, so they are basically the same price. The 6870 had complaints about how loud the fan is. The 560 about high temps.

I think there were some recent hot deals (see separate Anandtech forum) on the 6870, something like $130 or $140 after rebate?

That $120 6850 is a pretty stupid deal. It's still bawse mode for most current games. If the 6870 was $140 or less then I would say spend the extra and get that (note the 6850 is free shipping, 6870 is $8 bucks = $158)

Thats not even true anyways.

Ive seen 6870's even recently for $130-$140AR. So its only like a $10-$20 difference. Id get the 6870 personally.

The 6870's I posted yesterday were $130, he didn't jump on it. Although I'm sure we will see them again at that price, but I can't stress how at $130 the 6870 is definitely the best bang for your buck, period.

Someone posted beta benches on youtube. I made a big chart from them. Should be indicative of the final at least.

Notice the 260 actually beats the 460! And 5850 beats the 6850. We'll see what happens next month. Either way most video cards should do fine.

Thats fine but kind of already shows what this list already stated. http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/video-card-support-for-diablo-iii

Not to take anything away from your post but, typically its not necessarily a good idea to judge performance from a beta...On top of that, the image does not show the resolution benchmarked at which kind of makes a big difference heh. In those regards, that performance chart could be pointless.

Not only do lot of optimization and improvements get added between betas and finals, video card drivers usually end up being optimized for specific games as well. I guess it might serve as a general idea but, a lot can change from those beta results.

The 260 beats the crappy 768mb model of the 460, not the normal 256bit bus 1gb version. The 5850 and 5870 have long been known to be faster than their successors, the 6850/6870 are better for tessellation, power efficiency and were introduced as low priced mid range cards. I don't know why this is even a debate if it's for Diablo 3, anything in the gtx 460-6850/6870 range will more than adequately handle Diablo 3.

Silly question: A friend is thinking of playing this game and asked me if his HD4850 (paired with a Lynnfield system) is still relevant at 1920x1080.

For sale section usually has 6850/6870 and 460 very cheap

the 460 is a solid little card considering I see it for 100$ used

I just bought a monitor so I need to wait.

FWIW, I am not a he, but a she.

No, it'd be great to play it on high settings. I have had Nvidia cards in the past, so that's fine. I really have no preference on who makes it.

Does that change your suggestions? $250 is more than I can spend right now.

Are you looking for a cheap sub-$100 card that will play D3 at reasonably high settings or are you looking for the best performing card at ~$150? Since you've been hanging on to the 6600gt/HD3000 for a while I'm guessing that you will be satisfied with the former. The recommended requirements for D3 is the 4870/260 which is slower than a 6850.

I would wait until the retail game has been reviewed (CPU and GPU scaling) and then decide what GPU to buy.

By that time the 6850/6870s in the pipe might be rare or gone and she'll be stuck with the overpriced 7700 series. If she's ok with buying used, then one should be easy to pick up.

Does D3 support eyeinfinity?? Would be awesome in a third person RPG.

No support for official eyefinity/surround/3D say Blizzard. The tri-monitor setups is something to do with fov and it not working with the engine. The 3D thing is something maybe they will amend later.

Users have tweaked it themselves to make it work, but you won't find the sort of eyefinity/surround support you see in WoW for Diablo 3 apparently.
