Hi,

I'm looking for a budget ips monitor. First of all, I can't really decide whether to get 1080p or 1440p for gaming because of doubts if 1440p is really worth it. I play mostly mmorpg / racing / open world games so I can understand a high refresh rate is not all that important but what is concerning me is the resolution.

1) For GAMING overall, is it really a noticable difference going from 1080p (24inch) to 1440p (25inch). 25inch 1440p has a very high ppi quality, and I don't really plan gaming on a 27" (so qnix is out)

2) So what's a good ips budget monitor. My budget is around $250 USD ($330 CAD). Some I've on mind are :-

a) Acer G257hu 1440p --- $350 CAD

b) Asus VS24ah-p 1920 x 1200 --- $280 CAD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...4236331&cm_re=vs24ah-p-_-24-236-331-_-Product

c) Really been considering LG too. Look very nice. LG 24mp57-p 1080p --- $220 CAD
http://www.staples.ca/en/LG-24MP57-...1133_2-CA_1_20001?cid=CSE:SBD:SHOPBOT:1561133

And 24MC57HQ-P 1080p
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...25100&cm_re=24mc57hq-p-_-24-025-100-_-Product

The more bucks I could save the better, since I'm already on a really tight budget for my proposed build here :-

Please Advice. Thanks (Note : My gfx card will be a GTX 970, so performance is not a problem)

I'm a bit confused, you say your budget is $250 CAD but the first monitor you have listed is $350 CAD? I see you've chosen a GTX 970, this card will perform well at 1440p.

If you would like to stick as close to $250 CAD as possible, either go with Asus you have listed (comes up as $219 on the newegg.ca website).

Or go with the VN248H-P: (has $35 off, so $200)

At that price range, you will not be able to get a 1440p panel worth buying. The 970 is going to be a bit overkill for 60Hz 1080p, you may want to consider saving for a panel in the range of $350-$450 as that will open up your options a bit.

EDIT:
I see now you said $250 USD. If you'd like 1440p, sure go for the Acer. Maybe consider the Asus VG248QE also, for the benefit of 144Hz.

why IPS if its for gaming? A great TN panel can get you higher refresh rates at a much more cost sensitive price.

It appears high refresh rates (TN monitors) are best for people who play very competitive fps games. The type of games I play (mentioned above) don't really need that much of a rate but color picture quality would be a better way to go.

They say once you go ips, you'll never come back. I personally place great emphasis on picture quality.

In your list, I wouldnt consider 25" 1440p. The main advantage of 1440p is that you are able to choose larger monitors and the decent PPI @ 27" is the sweet spot for it. At 25" or below, may as well stick to 1080p.

And for your budget, Korean monitors offer the best value for money if 1440p IPS panels are involved and image quality is your main priority. Consider the Crossover Sakwa here if you like the Apple Cinema look for image quality.

so for the question

1) For GAMING overall, is it really a noticeable difference going from 1080p (24inch) to 1440p (25inch).

that there will be no real noticeable difference between 1080p (24inch) to 1440p (25inch)?
