Any thoughts on adding something else? Or maybe a different CPU or Ram?
I really like that MoBo, and I definitely want 64GB of ram of course. Was hoping to liquid cool my Ram but mehh, doesn't seem necessary.
Like we all said -- it's your money. I will give a Pope's Xmas blessing on your choice of a PSU. Wonder why you would want two EVO's of that size, when you could buy the 1TB model, but there are always reasons.
I see you're going with water-cooling, perhaps a good idea: I think that CPU has 130W TDP? You say you want "a hobby," so it's obvious you're going into it feet first -- with a splash!
Now . . . not sure why you're buying 64GB of RAM. I've only got 16GB, and the system seldom uses more than 50%. Maybe you're going to bid on a contract with NSA so you can read my e-mail and that of about a million other people, and you want the computer to do the "reading."
You can certainly do that, but it seems like overkill. Let me explain something. Whether you overclock the RAM or use its recommended, default settings, you'll want to test it thoroughly to weed out any bad modules -- it happens, even with the best and most popular kits. Corsair is fine; I use G.SKILL now.
You'd probably test with a freeware(? maybe) program called HCI-Memtest. You want to run the program for "1,000% coverage," or ten passes of all tests against the RAM. It took me five days to complete the 1,000% test with 16GB on an
i7-2600K@4.6Ghz system. Five days! Figure double for 32GB, and quadruple for your quad-channel 64GB. I'm jus' sayin', bro!
Next thing -- the Zalman fan controller. First, it appears to be "all manual." Looking at your radiator choices, you'd at most use five fans for that. Instead, check your Rampage IV "Black" specs and details about the fan-headers on the mobo. ASUS native fan-control is now quite nice.
If you want to buy a controller, and you figure money's no object, there are some out there that are auto-thermally controlled with configuration settings you can choose. Of these, some will even control your water-pump. Take a look at
www.frozencpu.com and
www.sidewindercomputers.com . The trick is to buy a controller that has its own processor, communicates with your mobo via internal USB. For the kind of rig you're building here, that's what I'd look for.
As for the case -- that's your choice, and NZXT makes some nice ones. My own choice for the last four years has been the nominal $90 CoolerMaster HAF midtower, but I use air-cooling -- for which I want a maximum airflow, minimum noise, and minimum number of fans (Works for me!) You could also spend a pile more on a case. Nothing wrong with that, either. But pick the case to match your cooling needs as well as other hardware.
BA-LEEVE ME! I can tell you how to spend money on some of these parts: I've toyed around with all of it!
