Im building a computer soon and i wanted to know what people's opinions are. Im either deciding on a AMD 64 3000+ with a DFI 754 or 939 socket. If I go with the 754 setup, itll be around $250, but if i go with the 939, itll be around $310. How much of an advantage does the 939 have over the 754 in terms of overclocking?? Ive seen the 939 3k winnie get to 2.4ghz with stock everything except a little added vcore. I havent seen much of the 754 3k nc, but everyone here says theyre the same ability. proofs?? experinces?? oh yeah and ill be running 512mb of corsair value ram because im on a tight budget. get another one later down the line. i know the 939 has dual channel and pci-e, but dual channel is negliable in an amd64, but the pci-e is really attracting. not because of performance but because of the price. i was really hoping on a 6600 non gt msi card for $120, but i didnt see any agp cards that were attractive for 100 dollars. all i could get was an ati 9600pro, but that seems out dated and cant keep up with the 6600 non gt.
PLEASE HELP

Go with the socket 754 3400 (2.2) if not overclocking and a cheaper board. For overclocking, pricewatch has a couple of socket 939 combo deals with the gigabyte k8ns board for around $235. They also have an ecs pci-e board for $227, but it has no overclocking options except cpu fsb.

if i was to go with the socket 939 setup this is what i would get chaintech boards are awesome overclockers and with the nforce4 board you cant go wrong the total with the 939 setup chip,board,vcard is 383 bucks at newegg the benefit of the 939 is you can update the vid card and run dual channel memory at a future date and not get stuck with the outdated socket 754 and trying to find a faster vid card and memory 2 years from now

Not a bad price to move into the Nforce4 arena. I wouldnt go with s754. 939's have on die memory controllers. That alone is worth the bypass to 939

Best bang for buck is easy choice:

1. AMD ATHLON 64 2800+ RETAIL BOX AX core only $120
EPOX 8KDA3I $62

total=$182

2. OC to 2500mhz with stock HSF.

3. Profit. = 6600GT

Questions on this... how to know it is an AX core? I see two of these listed on the 'Egg. One is in a cardboard box and one is a blister pack. Is it the blister pack?

Epox 8KDA3I and 8KDA3J are about $5 apart. Any benefit to the "GB" version of the chipset? Looks like only that and the sound are different between the two.

If you want to go even lower on price, Celeron D isn't a bad deal. I've heard of some people getting to 4 ghz on air. I can get 3.7 ghz on defauly voltage with my 2.4 E0.

Hi Zap it says in AMD product code...
for example do a PRICEWATCH.COM search for ADA2800AXBOX or ADA2800AEP4AX

8KDA3I vs 8KDA3J your call.. did'nt realise only $5.. Last time it was $15
