Buffalo Airstation 54Mbps Wireless G Cable/DSL Router - WYR-G54

$38.99 - $20 MIR = $18.99

PRODUCT

REBATE

If anyone has experince with this, please let me know. It seems like a great price, and im in the market for a wireless G router.

It seems like the WBR-G64 is more feature rich than the WYR-G54. It has Buffalo's Exclusive Intrusion Detector and EOSS support. Does that make it worth the extra $$ ?

Great router, mine does very well range and speed wise, easy for novice to configure the basic settings. Bridging also supposed to be easy, though the range was so good for me that bridging was not necessary (through 4 walls and across 40 feet, never a weak signal, tried walking away from the 2nd floor appartment but after 120 feet got cold and board so gave up on finding the limit).

However, if anyone has some networking experience, I've been trying to figure out how to allow mine to operate as just a wired/wireless access point on a DSL setup shared with 100 appartment residents ... basically I don't want it to assign an IP address, let the appartment router, which has one line in my room, do it instead; but I just can't figure out how. Any suggestions?

Serval- Just don't connect the WAN port and let your apartment router assign IP addresses - turn off DHCP on this wireless router. Then the wireless router will be just an ethernet hub/switch.

Does it support being a repeater and AES encryption?

Great deal, Buffalo wireless products are excellent. They need to hire better translators for their firmware/documentation though, sometimes the English is pretty bad. For noobies, configuration can be a bit overwhelming.

Almost all Buffalo products have a port for an external antenna.

I don't know about the repeater function but IIRC from the manual it is supposed to.
It does support AES encryption (what I'm using currently).
