Buffalo burger vs Hamburger

I've seen buffalo burgers on some menus and never had the guts to turn my back on our lovely cows. Is buffalo meat comparable to beef? I'm thinking burgers. Not steaks. Don't mess with my cow steaks.

Comparable? Yes. Identical? No. Every buffalo burger I had was similar to a cow burger, but the buffalo was drier and somewhat stringy.

Some people definately perfer buffalo. So why not try it?

It's pretty much the same flavor as beef, but most places over cook Buffalo burgers(lean meat = no fat to add moisture) and they dry out into crusty hockey pucks. It's nice for cooking into dishes, but not my favorite choice for burgers.

Buffalo is okay, but nothing special. It's VERY lean and easy to cook badly. If you take care to do it very well it's not different enough from beef to bother with it.

If you cook it well done, its dry and not so great. However, if you get it medium rare-medium, its very good.

I'm going to get one again tomorrow. Maybe Ted's cooks them differently, but they aren't dry at all. Quite the contrary - they seem very greasy. I like them though.

Around here there are some local restaurants that serve buffalo and ostrich burgers. The ostrich is very close to beef, it's actually a bit sweeter in flavor. The buffalo is very similar in taste to beef. Both ostrich and buffalo are drier though, there isn't as much fat. Get one cooked medium rare - medium and you probably won't notice much difference at all.

Buffalo is a bit tougher than cow, and it's oil's are a bit "muskier". It's not bad though.

I think buffalo is a much better meat than cow. The buffalo meat i can get from my local market is less in fat content yet better in taste than any beef i get. I also get buffalo steaks which are mmmMMM good Buffalo ribs, buffalo london broil, all if done right are WAY better than cow.

I love cow burgers, but one restaurant in my area does an excellent job with buffalo. I guess I don't really have a preference between the two, they're both really good.

I had a bison burger a few months back at Ted's Montana Grill...apparently all of the bison are raised on Ted Turner's ranches, it was pretty good stuff

I can't eat kangaroo.

I like bison better than beef. Don't cook it well done, though. To my mind, it tastes like beef used to taste before it became a manufactured commodity.

Buffalo is great, same with ostrich. but i dont typically care, it's all good anyway. If it's meat, i'll eat it.


The question is... can you buy buffalo online, in bulk?
