I wouldnt't be too upset about missing this. I bet memory prices will keep going down for a while and there will be better deals out there before it's over. This was just the first wave.
Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation (PSC) president Brian Hsieh today expressed optimism that the Windows Vista operating system will drive up DRAM prices in the second half of the year.
Hsieh said the low season may last until May or June, but demand will pick up in the second half.
While DRAM prices have dropped sharply in February, edging close to PSC's production costs, there will be little room for further declines, Hsieh said.
The PSC president said DRAM spot prices should stay at around US$4 in the first half of the year, and will climb to US$4.5 in the second half, thanks to Vista-stimulated demand.
Hsieh's remarks echoed Micron CEO Steve Appleton's expectation that Vista will drive up DRAM prices.

Besides some memory manufacturers hoping the price increases, if you look at the trends on Anandtech's RTPE, which is admittedly quite flawed, the pricing trends for memory are now around where they were at the end of August last year, sometimes lower.
The AT RTPE flaws......not much selection of memory shown, such as under the DDR2-800 section, 2 x 1GB sets. Only 17 matches shown and while that's nice, there are LOTS more than 17 different sets of 2GB sets of DDR2-800 memory out there. No pqi, no G. Skill, no Wintec, very few of OCZ's selection, 1 Patriot, 1 mushkin, no Kingston HyperX or valueram, and on and on....heck, Newegg lists 42 sets of 2GB DDR2-800.....and the number of stores "crawled" is stupidly small. No Tankguys, no eWiz (SuperTalent's cheapest spot on the 'net), no ClubIT.......guess all those places just forgot to pony up the bucks to be included, eh? And the manufacturers must not have paid the requisite bucks to be included, too?
RTPE my butt.........maybe for a select few etailers and inventory, but who could possibly depend on such a flawed search engine like this? Take a look at Anand's "Picks" on AT's home page.......an Intel E6600 for $473???? Give me a break!!! Guess Amazon really got picked there, eh?
Shopzilla comes a bit closer and Froogle is even better than what is passed off as a Real-Time Price Engine. Makes me laugh sometimes. Of course, it is better than PriceWatch, but then again, what isn't?
