I have this router with dd-wrt installed and i cant get file sharing to work between wireless and wired computers. I have them on the same workgroup turned off FW and AV to test it still dont work. The computers that are wired can share amongst themselves but cannot share with wireless, any ideas?

I have a Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT, and this Buffalo with the Tomato firmware. I find the tomato firmware to be much more user-friendly and would recommend it over DD-WRT. Using one of these routers as a wireless bridge is way better than buying wireless adapters for single devices. I have my HTPC, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, and a printer connected to the Linksys that bridges with the Buffalo to where my main PC is and the DSL modem. Works like a champ!

GREAT ROUTER.

Basically same hardware as the linksys model we've all come to enjoy, for much cheaper. I got one for $40 shipped from the egg monthes back, and put on dd-wrt immediately (great open-source freeware -- many more features and much better web interface)(just make sure to follow the directions for the install exactly as said on dd-wrt's website, otherwise it's possible to brick the router). It blows my d-link router out of the water -- rock-solid wireless connection and very rare interruptions, all from 80+ft and 6 walls away.

I picked up this router and it sounds like you guys really like the Tomato firmware, anyway I went to the site and read the faq so I wont screw things up, I downloaded the firmware and read the faq that came with the download as well but am at a loss on how to install this firmware. Now I may be retarded but I honestly cant figure this out and don't want to risk screwing things up. I don't know what they mean by any of the instructions for Buffalo routers in the faq so if someone could post a detailed step by step guide on how to install the Tomato software it would be much appreciated.

As far as I can tell I cant just upload from the buffalo utility like a normal firmware upgrade. I was thinking of trying this because Iv'e had a few beers but now have decided not to because I have to work at 7 and everyone else will be pissed when the wireless is not working all day.

How do you use it as a bridge?

I picked this router up today at Circuit City and got Tomato on it no problem, however I can't connect to it. Full signal strength - error says that it is not assigning an IP address. I'm not familiar with wireless networking - any help? A setting I missed? I did enable wireless and can see the network I just can't connect to it.

Picked mine up at CC for $30 after two rebates. After all the praises you guys sung for this router, seemed like too good not to snap up.

I can't seem to install the firmware since my Windows xp 64-bit doesn't have "tftp" which both DD-WRT and Tomato say is required to flash the router. Is there any way around this?

tftp is kind of like ftp but you can use it to transfer the binary image that your trying to flash to the router. If your using xp just click the .bat file they have and as soon as you do that plug the router in and watch the status lights. Its really easy to do.

If someone could help me flash to tomato it'd be great. I type "tftp -i 192.168.11.1 put tomato.trx' after getting the network setting set right (I know they are right because I can see the login box for the "airStation")
But I just get a "Timeout Occurred" error.

Also, what is the username/password for the stock firmware, and what is the username/password for the tomato firmware? I can't find it anywhere.

I still can't find the bat file, but I ran "tftp -i 192.168.11.1 put tomato.trx" to flash the firmware, you have to hit enter right after you plug in the power for the router (I guess I didn't catch the part about only having 5 seconds to do that).

but now I can't log in to the router...what's the default username/password for tomato?
root and admin arn't working.

Did you guys even take a look at the stock firmware, or did you just OMGZORZ DD-WRT. The stock firmware actually has modern features that aren't included in the released version of DD-WRT. Not only that, but you're supposed to use the mini version of DD-WRT with this router due to its limited flash memory.
