Buffalo wireless web browsing problems

So I just bought a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 router on Amazon and have been experiencing intermittent timeouts when trying to open up any webpages. Anyone have any similar problems or any solutions?

Here's some background info:
I bought the Buffalo router to replace a DGL-4300 router for hopefully a better wireless connection a couple of weeks ago and flashed Tomato on it. I setup all my wireless and WAN settings up and my laptop gets an excellent wireless signal. I open IE and browse to espn, google, etc. The sites come up but after a couple of minutes, any and all web pages start timing out. Ping tests also time out. The wireless connection icon still shows excellent connection and pidgin(IM client) is connected and I can message my friends fine. My desktop connected with a lan cable connects to the webpages fine. On my laptop, I try to access the router's config page and that times out too, I never get prompted to login. I disconnect and reconnect the wireless connection and again get an excellent connection but I am still getting timed out web pages. It does start to display web pages after awhile but it is very annoying.

I thought that it had something to do with the Tomato firmware so I flashed it back to Buffalo's firmware but that didn't help either. So I RMA'd it thinking I had a bad router and got a replacement but am still getting the exact same issues with the new router(haven't touched the firmware yet). It's not my laptop or my WAN connection because if I connect my old DGL-4300 router back it works fine.

That really sounds like interference. Change channels to 1, 6 or 11 to see what works best and orient the antennas properly along with eliminating other sources of interference - other access points, microwaves, bluetooth, cordless phones, anything in the 2.4 Ghz spectrum.

Yeah, I tried changing the channels to 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 and left it at automatic as well, none seem to help. I actually moved my laptop right next to the router just to eliminate any possible problems with the signal getting degraded as well. The router is also in the same place as where I put my old router(which works fine in that area). It's just really weird that it's only http/https packets over the wireless signal that's timing out. Skype calls work fine as does messaging clients.

That's because those use small packets and web uses max size so it would make perfect sense based on your symptoms. You can download netstumber and look at your signal to noise ratio or the utility for your wireless card should give you SNR and RSSI, the bars or "excellent" are meaningless.
