Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH Range?

I want to replace a Linksys WRT310 due to its poor range; I'm thinking of a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH. Has anyone used this router and how do you like it so far? Thanks.

It depends on what is limited the range.

If some thing kills the signal, or their is excessive signal noise then any Wireless will be in trouble.

I just got the G300NH and it seems pretty good. I am using the stock firmware, which I updated using the web interface. My computer upstairs is wired, and I was able to stream 720p content to my wireless laptop downstairs. The router is on the floor at the moment, but am planning to mount it soon.

I was able to stream 1080p content but would occasional skip here and there. As far as internet goes, the range is fine for me, since my connection is only 6.0mbps.

just fyi, the nas does not support ntfs. People on the egg gave it poor reviews because of this, but they should have read the manual that is available online before buying it instead of saying "buffalo should warn it does not support ntfs". Lazy customers.

I'm not gonna do anything fancy, just casual internet surfing around the house. So far, the connection using the Linksys WRT310N is very bad after ~30-40ft with 2 walls in between. Hopefully this Buffalo one is gonna improve.

I'm actually having some issues with the buffalo now, which isn't making sense to me hehe.

When my PC is wired to the router - the mobo's nic only shows 100 mb/s in the connection status, instead of gigabit, and I know the nic is gigabit. My laptop is wireless and shows 150-300mbps which is expected.

Using this arrangement, my laptop copies a large file from the PC at about 1.5mb/sec.

However, my PC also has a wireless N nic (it's pci, up to 150mbps). Using both the pc and laptop wirelessly, the laptop can copy a large file from the PC at about 9mb/sec.

I'm checking out the buffalo support forums, a lot of people have questions. The internet is perfect everywhere in my 2400sqft home though. I bought this based on a great review from maximumpc. They were getting over 30mb/sec at 65 feet away , or something like that.

I guess I have to keep messing with the NIC settings or something.

Almost all of the range or performance problems with wireless can be attributed to noise, interference or poor antenna position. Basically a low signal to noise ratio. Change channels to 1, 6, 11 and make sure the antennas aren't pointed to the client but rather 90 degrees.

Sometimes you're just in a bad environment and it's always going to suck. If so switch to 5 Ghz which doesn't have the terrible noise problems 2.4 Ghz does.
