Buffer Under Run Errors, Please Help!!!

I was burning a backup cd from my dvd drive to the burner. Burner is 12x from aopen configured as secondary master, connected to onboard ide connector. My dvd rom supports 40x cdrom read speed, and is configured as primary master on the promise ATA 66 card.

I tried to make a copy of the back up cd from the dvd drive to the burner at 12x speed with NTI cd maker 2k, but it failed to make a copy. I tried NERO burning rom and it failed to copy the cd from the dvd drive at 12x speed too.

I switched to 8x writing speed while and tried both of of the software, but still no luck.

What is the problem. Is the dvd speed to slow. or the dvd cannot keep up with the burner.

Should I change their configuration or should I get a faster cdrom drive like 52x or 72x.

Or should I get a scsi cdrom drive.

I cannot afford a scsi burner right now.

i have the same problem to,
my aopen cd-rw, wont do audio cd's at 12x..

and sometimes when I record image files that are more that 600meg, it gives me some power calibration error...
i use adaptec 4, with all the udpates...
most of the time it works at 12x, but with audio only 8x
i guess youl have to go lower and wait..
or..
reboot
close everything that is open in the background
start recording the cd and leave it alone..
if you work on the pc it might mess it up
then try 8x..

Test the read speed on your dvd. If it's not 24x up than you can't burn on the "fly" at 12x without buffer problems. Just go to adaptec system test and test the read and transfer speeds. If it's above 24x than i have no idea what is wrong.

My 52x creative reads @ 20x and there are low bufferings during the burning but it works.

It seems like the drive can do 32x read.

What does "on fly" mean and what it can do.

BTW, i changed the configuration and made the burner primary master and dvd secondary master on my onboard ide controller.

My hard drive is on the promise ATA card now.

How does the Kenwood 72x drive scale out in this case. Any better. I have heard some bad things about the drive, that has terrible problems in reading from CD-R and CD-RW discs. Any suggestions.

I tested the UT cd for burning and it worked fine at 12x speed and burnt the copy in 5mins and 31 seconds. Is there a difference while making copies off cd-r as compare to plain cds.

hmmm..so if that was tested on your dvd rom than i suppose i have no clue to what is wrong.

But if those aren't your results, your drive may be screwed or it's some other factor.

does it burn other cd's at 12x? could be the cdr disc

try a different kind of media

update your burner/dvd drivers

Why dont you just copy the cd to your hdd and burn it from there?
