I think the mantis is one of the most ballsy bugs on this earth, that or just plain stupid. They investigate and crawl on EVERYTHING, its almost like they have personality. I find it kinna hard to consider them a bug sometimes. They remind me of turtles, their very slow moving, and kinna check things out as out as they go.

yes...it was crazy to have the little guy reach out his front lags and grab the cam and crawl on to it...not scared a all...it was cool

Those are some of the most beneficial bugs to have around, alongside ladybugs

Because we've had a recent invasion here of Asian aphids, the farmers decided to import Asian ladybugs, because our little old North American ladybugs couldn't eat enough of the aphids.

Man these Asian ladybugs are HUGE! And they're kinda agressive too. They'll bite you if you bother them. Big orange suckers and not as nice-looking as the usual ladybugs.

Yup, the praying mantis is one of the good guys. They're fun to pick up in your hand, too! Now cockroaches, on the other hand... :disgust:

Another nice fact about Praying Mantis: The females eat the males head after sex......they don't give head...they take it!

I found a nest, or cocoon of these when I was younger and kept it in a jar for a while. Very cool to watch a few hundred baby mantises (mantisie?) being hatched. I set them free in a field behind my house. I see a couple of these guys every year. Nice pictures btw

dang, never seen a antis around my backyard. We do get ladybug invasions every year though. They get in the house and I sleep with one eye open looking out for them, even though I know they dont bite (well, at least not us)

They do their job well.

I've read that a single Asian lady bug can eat over 100 aphids a day!:Q Even ladybug larvae eat aphids. As the world gets smaller it gets more and more brutal. Ladybugs are fierce hunters from birth.
