Why even bother with a V8?

It has about the same power as the competitions V6s, gets much worse fuel economy, and is slower.

So what's the point in even having a V8 if it is trounced by smaller motors?

So what affordable v6 equals Corvettes standard 400hp?

WTF does that have to do with the Lucerne? The only reason why it even has a V8 is b/c it's a repackaged version of the dirt old DTS.

If GM took the time to do something with its newer platforms (like enlarging the epsilon) instead of reusing old sh!t, they might grab onto something...and how about actually geting some use out of the fuggin' 3.6 V6????

So your just pissed that I pointed out you can get 400 ponies from a standard Corvette V8 and there are no affordable V6s with comparable performance? Tsk, tsk.

If your going to rag on v8s, which Im no fan of, at least know what your talking about.

(Remember, I agree with you)

I'm not ragging on V8s in general. I'm ragging on the Northstar V8 in the Lucerne that gets raped by smalller V6s.

I love V8s, and I love the V8 in the Vette, but the Northstar in this application is outclassed by smaller sixes.

i think he was trying to be sarcastic...

This car isnt going to last very long as its target audience will be pushing up daises soon.

But the thing is that target audience probably yearns for the day when you could buy a car with a V8, even if its ineffecient with regard to power output and a guzzler to boot.

You're missing the point of what NFS4 originally said. He's obviously talking about V6 versus V8 exclusively within the context of sedans comparable to the size and price of the Lucerne. No reason exists for bringing the Corvette into a discussion about a Buick.

(Edit: I'm late; never mind)

Have you removed the GM dong from your ass yet? I know the Tahoe one had you occupied for the past few months

nope because unlike the Avalon, the Tahoe is not out done by a Hyundai, or ANY manuf for that reason.

Oh, I'm sorry. Which company is losing billions, having to restate its financials, laying off employees, buying out even more and just had to sell its 51% stake in GMAC?

Is that the best you can do? Screw history. It isn't helping Cadillac outsell Lexus

Most boring cars ever? Take a look at the current Impala...even the V8 model which would probably be toasted by a Camry V6, Altima V6, or Accord V6

from thecarconnection

"For V-8 fans (and who isn't?) best news is the delightful new Impala SS, which returns legendary small-block Chevy power to the once-legendary Impala nameplate for the first time since last decade's huge, blimp-like rear-drive Impalas. This all-aluminum 5.3-liter sweetheart pumps out a healthy 303 hp and 323 lb-ft, launches the 3712-lb SS to 60 mph in 5.7 sec. and -- partly thanks to GM's Displacement on Demand (DOD) cylinder deactivation technology - delivers a very decent 18 mpg city, 28 mpg highway EPA economy."

And one day you'll feel torque and quit with the spec racing.
