Get Windows installed and then get the NVidia drivers installed and we'll go from there.
so gigabyte installed a ton of drivers automatically (and tried to install norton lolllll) as well as a bunch of firmware updates etc. there appears to be nvidia drivers installed.

if im going to install latest ones should i use the ones from gigabyte website, or from nvidia website?

Nvidia site. And make sure not to install anything that lets you mess with the card's LCD display. Those firmware updates from Gigabyte often brick the card and then you will need to go through RMA hell. I have a Gigabyte AORUS RX 6800 and I'm content with seeing the default animations on the LCD display. Not gonna install any iffy Gigabyte crap.

How did Gigabyte do that? Through Windows updates? Or did you download the Gigabyte software and run it?

If he gets a Ryzen 9800X3D in November, he will have about 15 months to enjoy his brand new frickin' fast CPU because nothing else that will be faster will be available.

If he gets a 7800X3D, he either sells it at a loss to upgrade to 9800X3D later or he "suffers" with the lastgen CPU, pretending to stick to his decision to "not care" whatever else comes after he buys it.

In the latter case, he's just psychologically manipulating himself.
Uh hmmm...
Poo shingles!

Looks like no 9000X3D until next year.
How does that 7800X3D look now there Igor?

once windows loaded it automatically said gigabyte control center is installed click this to install all the drivers. as if it had been preinstalled. all through the gigabyte app

so far...GPU seems to be posting via the display port reliably without clearing CMOS.

still need to install the latest nvidia drivers, but the computer turns on posts and is functioning via the GPU...

now to put the riser cable back in and the vertical mount and see what happens

Okay so i am up and running...mostly. what ive discovered is this - if i turn the computer on and let it boot, it passes POST and it lets me use the computer. the caveat is this. i never see the gigabyte splash screen for the BIOS and i cannot enter the bios and see it. if i hit delete or F2, i get a boot orange light meaning we havent booted (fine) but the GPU does not show me the bios on the monitor via the displayport.

Is this a setting i need to look into?

Looks like nvidia has a GPU UEFI firmware update tool that specifically describes my situation (blank screen on boot until OS loads)

running this did not fix my issue

Find a setting called Fastboot (not sure what Gigabyte calls it) and disable it. Or if there's a boot delay change it from 0 to 1 or 2 seconds.

Other thing I can think of is, you need to set primary graphics to your PCIe slot, instead of the integrated GPU.

Hmm, ill try to see if I can locate that setting and report back
Well one thing i tried is swapping the cable to an HDMI instead of displayport, still coming out of the GPU. THat worked as well.

so HDMI whether its from the motherboard or from the GPU works. its just displayport that wont show the BIOS

initial display output is listed as PCIe 1 Slot, integrated graphics are set to auto.

is it possible that somehow when it first tried to install windows i screwed up the UEFI settings or something and thats why it doesnt work right? is it worth reinstalling windows and starting that all over, or would that not really solve this? not having access to the BIOS when using displayport is just a very weird and annoying problem

And final test - i reflashed the BIOS and cleared CMOS. flashing bios didnt fix it. clearing CMOS makes it work exactly one time. then the next reboot and it does not show the splash screen or let you enter BIOS with displayport.

some people online say its a display port issue possibly with the monitor...i doubt that...but im even flashing the monitor software
edit- this didnt help

Seen this?

Here is everything I did to eventually solve this problem:
  1. Update NVIDIA GeForce Drivers to latest
  2. Download NVIDIA GPU UEFI Firmware Tool to ensure latest DisplayPort drivers
  3. And MOST IMPORTANTLY (this fixed it for me), ensure that your monitor DisplayPort settings is set to match your DisplayPort cable
For Step 3, my monitor was set to DisplayPort 1.4 in the Settings and my cable was actually 1.2. Changing this enabled everything to FINALLY work after reboots.

i also am using the displayport cable that came with the monitor.
What about setting the displayport version in the monitor menu, if there is such an option?

Or go into Nvidia control panel and see if you can set some displayport mode there?

By the way, the manufacturer could've put the wrong DP version cable in the box. These things happen.

Also, you said integrated GPU was set to Auto. Can you disable it and see what happens?

no option in nvidia control panel.

the cable doesnt specifically say the version but it calls itself an '8k' displayport and lists the specs for 1.4 i think. not entirely sure but it seems to be.

what happens if i disable it and cant boot back to bios?

Well to make this even more confusing

when i switch display port to v1.1 it works fine. so its an issue with these cards and DP 1.4 for booting the bios. probably needs a firmware fix would be my guess then.

i disable the IGPU and it didnt work on 1.4 but did work with 1.1

i dont have any other DP cables unfortunately
i cannot get into the BIOS that way either with 1.4 DP enabled, it works with 1.1 enabled

Well, unless you need really high refresh rates, I think problem solved, no?

Where did you set the DP version? In the monitor menu?
