Okay so heres a question - there are no white RGB RAM kits that are listed on the QVL to get me to 64GB, and none that have native EXPO

What are my options?

Is there a way to manually find the right timings or settings to use this RAM? is it a problem to not use the approved RAM?
RAM on the qvl simply means that the motherboard vendor tested that particular kit and found it to work. A kit not on the qvl doesn't mean it won't work, it just hasn't been tested.

What kit do you have again?

It should be A2/B2 for the RAM.

What BIOS are you using? And is everything back to default settings or have you changed anything in BIOS?
I am using the most recent BIOS, and everything is now back to default except EXPO is on. So far, the computer seems to be functioning normal.. also yes i am A2/B2 for the RAM. my memory kit is F5-6000J3036G32GX2-TZ5NRW

as far as the QVL, i didnt find the exact memory on the QVL but did find a number of builds that used this RAM kit with this motherboard. there were similar things posted for kingston white RGB CL30 and 6000mhz kits too. also not on the QVL, but also working with EXPO profiles, so thats how i ended up picking this kit

Current status report

active issues
- intermittently get that weird explorer memory error on restart. it only occurs on a restart/shutdown/logoff. it is not every time.

resolved (hopefully?) issues
- the displayport issue seems to be completely resolved with the new cable even tho at first it seemed to not work, it seems to have adjusted itself and likes it now. running DP 1.4 i can reboot and access BIOS etc all via the new DP cable
-the DRAM light issue is resolved
- the Lconnect issues have all been resolved with replacing the TL controller and reinstalling L connect
- the razer keyboard double key issue is fixed by downgrading to razer synapse 3, not using their beta synapse/chroma apps - this caused double keypresses after a reboot. i also updated all the razer peripherals firmware.
-whatever other issues i was having also seem to be resolved after updating everythings firmware/drivers/windows updates/ and the full reinstall of windows.

current plans
-is there utility in running memtest86 overnight?

Ive never used memtest64, i can run that next if its worth it

ive only ever used memtest86+ which has a new version out there it seems (memtest.org)
theres also passmarks memtest86 (memtest.com)

suffice to say the history of the fork from the original memtest project is confusing, is there any major difference between memtest86 or 86+ or memtest64? right now I have memtest86 from passmark running

Not sure. memtest64 is just more convenient as you can run it in Windows and let it keep running I guess while you browse the internet and stuff. Could do it for a few days like that without losing access to your PC.

Gotcha - well FWIW i did 4 passes of memtest86 (passmark) overnight and it passed without any errors or issues. EXPO timing was on, both sticks were in.

as of now, thje only thing that seems to be causing problems is the random explorer.exe memory error on shutdown or logoff. is there any other way to troubleshoot this or figure out whats causing it?

i just pulled this from the event viewer = itrs the most recent one. the error codes are exactly the same as the previous. how can i go about troubleshooting this>

This is the error from event viewer. happens only on log off or shutdown, intermittently.
Found this on Reddit regarding this error, although the user got it during shutdown after playing games.

For anyone having this issues just got to disable "gaming input services" in services.msc and you still can use your controller everything works fine and no errors when restarting or shutting down

Well - ill say this. i turned off the service and then shut down. and no error. ill keep testing, and if i notice the error again ill keep disabling it before reboot and see if that prevents the error.

if that is in fact the error, is there any way to long term fix or troubleshoot this? or is it pending a microsoft update.

If you set it to disable it shouldn't run anymore so this should be a long term fix. Here's a link to the reddit thread:

Thanks i will try.

i also found this thread on microsoft forums

LOTS of folks with this exact issue - even persisting after a reboot. some think its related to particular updates from windows

they blame the same service gaminginputservice as well as some windows updates. i couldnt find the mentioned update (its too old) but strangely i did have a new update to do this morning so i figured ill run that and give that a shot.

Ok well - after disabling that service. things seem to be mostly stable. not seeing that error on reboot anymore

games play great.

computer loads reliably. occasionally when doing a reboot via software, it gets stuck at DRAM light but if i manually power cycle that it loads.

occasionally when i turn off the computer the AORUS light and the AIO lights stay on after shut down for a bit, then turn off. turning off the PSU turns them off as well.

displayport issues seem intermittently gone but persist in 1.4, 1.1 seems to still be a workaround, or HDMI via MB (while running memtest i turned off the monitor which was connected via display port and then when i turned monitor on i couldnt see the memtest results so i had to redo memtest via HDMI connected to the MB, i didnt want to leave monitor on and risk burn in) but besides that the displayport is working and showing the boot/bios screens (sometimes) with this new cable.

no POST lights

fans are all working with new controller and recognized by L connect

all razer devices work now

for now, things seem to be good

i think im done troubleshooting for now, I can live with using HDMI/displayport 1.1 for BIOS or preboot issues and troubleshooting for now if it becomes necessary until some firmware BIOS or driver update fixes this. i can live with the mobo/AIO lights staying on for a minute before turning off, or power cycling if i need to. I can live with the occasional soft reboot getting stuck at DRAM and then a power cycle fixing it. If anyone has input on any of those please share, but im not going to keep chasing these ghosts in the machine, at least for now.

Okay so - who wants to see some build pics or some final build pics or have me run some benches etc? I havent done a build thread in a LONG time. What do folks wanna see and ill post some tests/pics/whatever!

Going to be honest I wouldn't be a bit surprised if some of your issues aren't due to the Gigabyte software. Motherboard software sucks, all of them. I have one piece of MSI software and thankfully it doesn't cause any issues, but I only use it to set the RGB for the motherboard, RAM and GPU. I hate using it. It is unintuitive, has zero support showing you how to use it, and just lacks any sort of refinement whatsoever. How much Gigabyte stuff got loaded and are you using any of it?

I think I'd be inclined to see how the PC performs without all the Gigabyte software. I know you need some of it to control the lights and such, but the rest should be able to be removed. You can always reinstall it later if necessary.

DRAM light but if i manually power cycle that it loads.
Try a different uefi version until you find one that works reliably. When I first setup my AMD it took three different versions to find the one that worked best. Besides the reboot issue it might untangle other issues.

Thanks for suggestion...uhh, how do I do that?

Just download older versions of the BIOS and "update" the BIOS through the normal process.
will have to do that when i have a touch more time

as an aside - the new TL controller i installed is no longer recognized by l connect or windows.

a brief search on reddit though suggests its related to the newest l connect software and firmware updates that were pushed through (which i stupidly did) and now my second TL fan controller and fans are not working . i sent a message to lian li though. this seems like a wide spread issue.

DOes anyone know how to downgrade TL controller/L connect software?

interesting, i tried to downgrade to 2.0.17, and ran the L connect 3 clear software, and rebooted. this did not remove L connect 2.018 but now my fans are working again.. still in 2.0.18

Dang, that sucks about your Lian Li controllers. Hopefully they get you squared away quickly. You might be able to connect them to a fan header in the interim if they stop working again? I don't believe there is a way to downgrade the firmware since you don't get to choose a file.

And of course we want to see pics! Share whatever you want!

Yeah, I don’t think there’s a way to downgrade the firmware but you can downgrade to 2.0.17 software which the company company is offering right now because they realize there is at least some sort of issue… I did not end up doing that since the fans now seem to be working after running the L3 clear but this might be a temporary fix. I did file a support request with the company to at least get one of my controllers replaced

I will make an album later and upload some pictures and video, are there any benchmarks that I should run?
