That's the current wishlist I'm working with for someone. I will most likely go with the Corsair PSU over Antec, the mobo is just there for reference since I'll be purchasing the EFI-X Combo (better) from expresshd. I haven't decided on a case yet. OS will be Leopard, I haven't decided as far as Windows goes. I'd hate to let the ram go to waste, but I'm also waiting for the official Windows 7 release. Any form of Windows I throw on here now will be temporary, but I want it to have Media Center features. This build will spend much of it's time hooked up to an LCD TV.

My ideal budget is $1,500, but $1,700 is not too much of a stretch but I'd rather not do it. This Computer will be used mainly for video editing, and light gaming (Sims 3). I want it to be as quiet as possible, without having to use extravagant or expensive cooling methods. No overclocking.

Any advice/recommendations will be very appreciated. Thank you.

If you know whatever form of windows will be temporary, I'd say you should just throw on the 7 RC until the release.

In my case thread, I was deciding between the Cooler Master Centurion 5 and 590. Both are good options, I went with the 590. Someone else mentioned the Antec P182. Beautiful case, IMO, though a tad pricey.

I'm leaning towards an HTPC style case, I don't know if that's the best option for my build yet. I like the cases you mentioned though, anything to shave some money, the Cooler Masters look good, thanks. Still, trying for something a bit smaller.

Definitely check out silentpcreview, they got the word on building quiet PC's. The Antec P182 is generally considered a favorite over there.

However, if you're willing to consider pre-built, you really ought to check out the HP firebird. It's liquid cooled so there is NO NOISE whatsoever, my friend bought it and it's simply amazing. When it came out in January it retailed for almost $1800 but now it's selling for $999, or down to $900 in some online retails. It looks fucking beautiful (almost as if steve jobs had a word in its design) and it's got SLI'ed graphics card.

Anyway, that's definitely worth checking out, with the $700 left you can buy a premium monitor and a SSD (or 2!)!!!

Sounds good for silence, I'll consider it for another build. Right now I need mac compatibility guarantees.

Only way you're going to get a guarantee is if you buy a Mac.
