My old EVGA motherboard finally died. It had lifetime warranty. It's from 07, so there's no replacing it with another like it, so my choices were either a $50 credit at their store, or a new X299 motherboard.
I needed to build a new PC anyway, so I figured I'm ahead of the game with a new mobo, so I accepted that without much research.
So....after reading up on the X299 board and the CPU's it'll accept....I'm not so sure they did me much of a favor here.
It's Socket 2066, so I'm stuck with the "X" processors. Skylake, Kaby Lake and Cascade Lake. From what I gather, the Kaby's are basically useless. (and there are only 2 of them)
So it's Sky or Cascade. Cascades are kind of pricey IMO. Not sure I want to spend that much. Skylakes have a lot more choices.
Seems that it'd be much easier if I could use a "K" processor, but this is not an option unfortunately.
I don't game hard anymore...World of Warships is my main game these days. I'm comfortable selecting the rest of my components, but the CPU choice just isn't jumping out at me. I'm a "bang for the buck" kind of guy. I'd rather not spend 3-400 bucks on a CPU, but if there's one that really shines at that level, I'd do it.
Any suggestions?
