Build Failures

So I'm making this thread so I can share an experience about what I just found out was fail putting together my build, but you're welcome to share fellow stories.

So I got in on that legendary 150$ i5 2500K deal at Microcenter during Black Friday, because I was down there visiting family. I thought I was the luckiest guy in the world, being 16 and putting together my first build next week, this computer build being the first thing Ive had the pleasure of obsessing over. The Microcenter was packed, and seemingly run by (very kind, helpful) mutants, the two people I was helped by were a skinny white boy with his teeth growing out of his mouth so far they reached his lips, and a tall black man with one normal arm and one baby arm. Now, Im predjudiced against deformed people because of how I just found the trip turned out.

I told the man helping me I wanted their i5 2500K deal, and after talking it over the man told me to head to the register while he went into the back rooms to get me my processor. So I waited in line, and the guy handed the processor he got to the cashier as I waited in line. When I finally got to the cashier, I even splurged for their extended warranty plan so if I were to botch the building in some way I would be covered. I didn't even get to see the processor untill I was out of the door, because it was scanned and in the bag already. I took it out, looked at it, smiling, though it seemed like the price, which came to 185 after the 20 dollar warranty, was a little high, I thought nothing of it, happy to have my beloved little cpu.

Today, back in Buffalo, NY, as I looked over my precious little parts that are going into my build, only waiting for my 6950 which is in transit, with my wonderful HAF X and ASRock P67 Extreme4 Gen3 just waiting for some OCing on the 2500K, I unwrapped my dear processor from it's Microcenter bag, just in case it was getting lonely. Unfortunately, my grin reversed itself as I spied the model number, on the case that is in every other way identical to the 2500K, "i5 2400". A hurried glance at the receipt showed that they even charged me 165$ for it, 15 bucks more than the 2500K that day. F. M. L.

I never thought anything like that would ever happen, but lesson learned for next time I build (I guess the lessons being 1)Always quadruple check EVERYTHING ALWAYS and 2) Newegg, Newegg, Newegg, no excuses). I doubt Ill ever get that deal back for the 2500K, but I at least want my money back, and will be calling their customer support first thing tomorrow morning, hopefully after they've had their coffee and are in a good mood.

Anybody else ever have their plans go awry like this over a build?

I thought the same, but in all honesty who in their right mind would spend more for less like that on Black Friday? I mean worst case scenario the build is complete mid january if I get a 2500K from newegg and return the 2400 via mail

Actually, I ran down to MC to grab one of those i5 2500K's... and I (normally) go NOWHERE on Black Friday... letting the savages alone to feast on themselves. I was disappointed they didn't have the Gigabyte UD3 mobo I wanted to pair it with, but I got a D2H-B3 instead.

Now... let me tell you about Fry's...

Will they let you return via mail? That's pretty cool of them if so.
